Sacramento's pursuit of a new arena and the impact of recreation programs for the public

Sacramento (CA) has been grappling with the issue of a new arena for a little over a decade. The purpose of this study is to examine the perception Sacramento's elected officials hold regarding a new Sacramento arena, and to evaluate how that perception may change if recreation programs for the public were offered at the facility. Data collected for the study consisted of interview responses from the voluntary, anonymous participation of current and former elected officials holding office at or prior to January 2010, representing the Sacramento region at a City, County, or State level. Participants of the study seemed receptive to the idea of offering recreation programs for the public at stadiums and arenas; however, it did not change their perception regarding a new arena. This study focused only on the thoughts of elected officials who represent the residents of Sacramento. More research may be necessary to gather the thoughts of those residents.
