The impact of adult day care participation on elder depression in Russian-speaking participants

A secondary data analysis of Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) score for 50 elderly Russian-speaking participants in an adult day care program was performed to assess the effectiveness of adult day care program participation in reducing elder depression in Russian-speaking participants. Clients are administered by the staff social worker, the short-form GDS upon their intake into the program. Those clients who score 5 or more on the GDS were given the questionnaire again after approximately six months of adult day care program participation. The researcher hypothesized that GDS scores would decrease after participation. Though scores did, indeed, decrease, results were not of statistical significance.
