Abstract

The Prayer Warriors is a novel that explores themes of fundamentalism, and religious deconstruction. Bible college student Aishwarya McClelland struggles to retain her faith after her brother confesses that he no longer believes in Christianity. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Silas Bailey, obsesses over becoming a mature Christian, like he imagines his elders and peers are. Aishwarya’s deconstruction of the intellectual side of faith and Silas’s deconstruction of the experiential side reach a climax on a mission trip in Pakistan, where they both must confront each other’s unfulfilled expectations, and forge a path ahead.
