The peasant home for the maid in Hesiod’s Works and Days
Resumo
This chapter approaches the figure of the parthénos in the process of
being moved from one oîkos to another, as it appears in Hesiod’s Works and Days.
We can observe in this text the root of the inextricable link between femininity and
danger, and trace its connections back to other issues, such as the ideology of the
peasant group to which the author belonged, and the changes in the domestic domain
that take place during the Archaic period.
