- Abstract
- This paper aims to ≪reach for≫ the referential chains like an enormous iceberg on the base of Chastain (1975), Corblin (1995) and Schnedecker (2014). Chastain defined the term as follows: the referential chains (R-chains) are formed between contexts, if one expression in the chain refers to a given thing then so do all the others. But these chains are not necessarily formed only between different contexts.
Corblin designed the anaphoric chains (A-chains) and the R-chains as composed of referential relation and associative one respectively.
However, it is proved that there is no acceptable relation which is not anaphoric but associative in the phenomenon of languages. As a result, we attempt to answer the serious matter by introducing the notion of intuitive chains (I-chains) based on the equi-reference: R-chains are a contrapuntal function of the last one, A-chains, and associative anaphoric chains (AA-chains) in the form of a solid triangle with three vertices. The two former are on a basis of co-/equi-reference, though the two latter in accordance with anaphor.
