Maurice Ravel의 『Histoires Naturelles』의 분석연구

Abstract

라벨(Maurice Joseph Ravel, 1875-1937)은 드뷔시(Claude Debussy, 1862-1918)와 더불어 프랑스 인상주의 음악을 대표하는 작곡가이다. 19세기에서 20세기에 이르는 과도기에 이 시기의 프랑스 음악은 인상주의(Impressionism)라는 새로운 음악사조로 음악사 전반에 주요한 역할을 하게 된다. 라벨은 고전적 스타일을 유지하면서도 인상주의의 음악적 경향을 접목하여 자신만의 음악세계를 구축하였다. Histoires Naturelles<박물지>는 그의 주요한 성악작품 중의 하나로서 총 5개의 곡으로 구성되어 있는데, 라벨은 쥘르 르나르(Jules Renard, 1864-1910)의 산문집 박물지 Histoires Naturelles<박물지>의 동물을 소재로 한 산문시를 가사로 택하여 곡을 붙였다.

본 논문은 먼저 라벨의 생애와 음악, 그리고 그의 성악곡의 특징에 대해 개괄한다. 이어서 시인 르나르의 생애와 그의 작품에 대해 연구하여, 작품 Histoires Naturelles<박물지>에 대한 이해를 돕고자 하였다.

Histoires Naturelles<박물지>에서 라벨은 자신만의 음악적 색채를 산문시의 명료함과 직접성에 접목하였다. 그는 시어의 의미와 배경을 표현하기 위해 다양한 표현방법을 사용하였으며, 성악 프레이즈는 낭송을 하듯이 나타내는 경우가 많았다. 특히 그는 이 곡에서 고전주의적인 형태를 유지하면서도 시어의 표현을 위해 기존의 형식에 얽매이지 않고, 조성의 모호함이나 독특한 리듬감을 잘 사용하는 등 그 자신만의 음악색을 보여준다. 또한 시의 분위기 표현과 동물의 묘사에 중요한 역할을 하는 반주부에서는 피아노의 가능한 많은 기교와 기법을 동원하였다.

본 논문에서는 제 1곡 <Le Paon, 공작>, 제 2곡 <Le Grillon, 귀뚜라미>, 제 3곡 <Le Cygne, 백조>, 제 4곡 <Le Martin-Pêcheur, 물총새>, 제 5곡 <La Pintade 뿔닭>의 악곡분석과 가사이해를 통해 라벨이 쥘 르나르의 산문집「Histoires Naturelle(박물지)」에서 자신만의 음악어법을 어떻게 표현하는지 연구 분석 해 보고자 한다.

Ravel(Maurice Joseph Ravel, 1875-1937) and Debussy (Claude Debussy, 1862-1918) are one of the best French composers during the period of Impressionistic Music. During the transitional period between 19th and 20th century, the French music was greatly influenced by the 'Impressionism' which had a huge impact on the music history. Ravel's music demonstrates this transitional period perfectly by trying the new trend of Impressionism while keeping the traditional classical style. Through combining two different styles from different era, he sets his own musical style. Histoires Naturelles (Nature Histories) is one of the main compositions which includes five songs. For the lyrics of this composition, Ravel was inspired by the Histoires Naturelles (Nature Histories) written by Jules Renard (Jules Renard, 1864-1910) which is famous for its vivid description of the nature and the behaviors of the animals.

This thesis discusses about Ravel's life, his music and its influence on Histoire Naturelles (Nature Histories). In addition, it explorers the Renard's writing style and his literature in order to gain a deeper understanding of Hisotire Naturelles (Nature Histories).
