유아 동반 가족 대상 숲 체험의 동기와 경험에 대한 교육적 이해 -유아숲체험원을 중심으로-

Abstract

이 연구의 목적은 유아를 동반한 가족 대상 숲 체험 프로그램에 참여한 가족 참여자들을 대상으로 가족 숲 체험에 참여하게 된 동기와 의미 있었던 숲 체험 내용 요소를 파악하고 가족 숲 체험이 가족 구성원에게 주는 교육적 의미를 포괄적으로 이해하는 것이다. 연구자는 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 질적 사례 연구 방법을 채택하고 부모 참여자들과의 심층 면접을 실시하였으며 보다 깊은 이해를 위해 유아 참여자와의 면접과 유아숲체험원에 대한 현장 조사를 보조적으로 병행하였다. 연구 분석 결과, 부모 참여자들은 그들의 유년시절의 긍정적인 자연 경험과 현재의 자녀교육관이 내재적 동기로 작용하여 가족 숲 체험 프로그램에 자발적으로 참여하였다. 부모 참여자들이 가족 숲 체험 과정에서 의미 있었다고 평가하는 숲 체험 내용의 요소는 부모-자녀 간에 질 높은 상호작용이 이루어지는 활동과 일상에서 자주 경험하지 못하는 새로운 자연 체험, 혹은 이 두 가지를 동시에 반영하는 활동이다. 가족 숲 체험의 교육적 가치를 알아보기 위해 유아, 부모, 가족 전체로 범주를 나누어 살펴본 결과, 유아 참여자들은 숲 체험을 통해 자연친화적 태도가 향상되었고, 자유와 놀이를 즐겼으며, 사회성 발달이 이루어졌다. 부모 참여자들 역시 자연친화적 태도가 향상되었고, 자연과 인간의 공존 관계를 자각하였으며, 양육효능감이 향상되었다. 가족 구성원들은 가족 숲 체험을 통해 공통의 경험을 이야기하며 더욱 화목한 가정으로 발전했으며 숲 체험 활동에 대한 긍정적인 평가는 가족들이 다시 숲 체험 프로그램에 신청하는 새로운 동기가 되어 선순환하였다. 종합하면, 유아기 자녀를 동반한 가족 숲 체험은 가족 구성원 각자의 생애주기에서 요구하는 발달과업을 성취하도록 돕고 부모와 유아의 자연친화적인 태도를 향상시키며 세대 간에 자연을 즐기는 문화 전달 현상으로 교육적 의미가 있었다. 따라서 가족 숲 체험은 현재 가족의 건강한 성장과 문화를 만드는 것은 물론이고 미래세대가 자연을 찾고 즐기고자 하는 동기의 근원이 될 것임을 추론할 수 있다. 이에 연구자는 유아를 포함한 미래세대가 아름다운 자연에서 놀 권리의 중요성을 강조하며 유아 동반 가족 숲 체험의 활성화를 위한 방안들을 제시한다. 각 지방자치단체는 지역의 숲과 유아숲체험원을 지속적으로 보존하고 확대하기 위한 논의를 활발히 전개하고, 지역 주민들이 숲의 내재적 가치를 알 수 있는 생태 프로그램을 적극적으로 개발·보급해야 한다. 더불어 연구 참여자들이 공통적으로 학력 및 사회적 지위가 높게 나타난 현상을 고려하여 국가적·지역적 차원에서 자녀 교육 여건에 취약한 저소득층 가정의 부모들을 대상으로 부모교육의 기회를 제공하여 취약계층의 제한적인 정보력에 대한 문제를 해소하고 가족 숲 체험의 참여 동기와 접근성을 높여야 한다.

The purpose of this study is to understand the motivation and the elements of the meaningful forest experiences for family participants who participated in the forest experience program for families with children, and to comprehensively understand the educational meaning of family forest experiences to family members. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the researcher adopted a qualitative case study method and conducted in-depth interviews with parent participants, and for a deeper understanding, interviews with child participants and field surveys on Early Childhood Forest Experience Ground were conducted. In this paper, parent participants voluntarily participated in the family forest experience program as their positive natural experiences in childhood and the current educational view about their children acted as an intrinsic motivation. The elements of the forest experience content that parent participants evaluate as meaningful in the family forest experience process are activities that involve high-quality interactions between parents and children, unusual natural experiences that are not often experienced in daily life, or activities that reflect both at the same time. In order to find out the educational value of the family forest experience, the categories were divided into child participants, parent participants, and entire family. Child participants improved their nature-friendly attitudes, enjoyed freedom and play, increased sociality, parent participants increased their nature-friendly attitudes, realized the coexistence relationship between nature and humans, and improved parenting self-efficacy. Through the family forest experience, family members communicated with common experiences and developed into a more harmonious family, and the positive evaluation of forest experience activities became a new motivation for families to apply for the forest experience program again. Taken together, the forest experience for families with children was of educational significance as a phenomenon of promoting the achievement of developmental tasks required by each family member's life cycle, improving the nature-friendly attitude of parents and children, and delivering nature-preferred cultures between generations. Therefore, the family forest experience will not only create a healthy growth and culture of the family, but will also serve as the source of motivation for future generations to find and enjoy nature. Accordingly, the researcher emphasize the importance of the right to play in beautiful nature for future generations, including children, and suggested measures to revitalize family forest experiences with children. Each local government should actively discuss to continuously preserve and expand local forests and Early Childhood Forest Experience Ground. And it is necessary to actively develop and provide ecological programs that allow local residents to know the intrinsic value of the forest. In addition, considering the phenomenon that the parent participants have a high educational background and social status in common, parental education should be provided to parents of low-income families who are vulnerable to the conditions of their childrens education at the national and regional level. This solves the problem of limited information of the vulnerable classes and increases the motivation and accessibility of participation in family forest experiences.
