- Abstract
- As economics became one of the major subjects taught in the universities the United
Kingdom and European countries in the late 19th century, the question naturally
arises how the professionalization of economics had impact on the development of
economics. To answer this question, this paper explains the professionalization process
in the Anglo-Saxon and German cultures and tries to explain the relation between
the professionalization of economics and the Marginal Revolution. The major finding
is that there is no direct one-to-one relation between the professionalization and the
Marginal Revolution, since there are cultural differences across different academia of
different countries. However, we also find that the professionalization of economics
prompted to spread the marginal analysis across countries by providing channels
in which new theoretical contributions of neoclassical economics are discussed,
especially in the United States at the turn of the 20th century
