Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the individual differences in the conciousness of the future of oneself, korea and human beings. The semantic differencial method was employed, as was revised by Chang, D.H. (1964) based on Osgoods semantic differencial technique. The tool was composed of three dimensions, Evaluation factor, Potency factor and Activity factor. Evaluation dimension was constructed with 7 polar adjectives, Potency demension with 4 polar adjectives, and Activity demension with 4 polar adjectives. Each item was constructed with seven-step scale. The sample consists of 298 undergraduate students drawn randomly with stratified sampling technique from 5 universities in korea. The results and conclusions are as follows: 1. The future conciousness in oneself and korea may be generalized as pasitive. Especially, the future conciousness in oneself was distinctively positive compared with two concepts. 2. With regard to the factors, the future of oneself and korea is positive in Evaluation factor but the future of human beings is negative in it. In Potency and Activity factors, however, the conciousness tends to be increasingly negative in oneself, human beings, and korea, in ascending order. 3. With regard to the individual backgrounds, the following generalizations can be noted, 1) the reactions of students are less positive in the humanistic and social science than in natural science in Activity factor to the future of oneself. 2) According to the place of growth, the reactions of students are more positive in the city than in the extra-large city with 5% significant differences about the future of korea 3) There is no significant differences according to the educational level of parents, the socio-economic status, and the frequency of contact with mass media in future conciousness. Based on the results and conclusions, educational considerations can be pointed out: 1) It is necessary to gear the furture education program toward instilling more optimistic future conciousness in the students. 2) Future education needs to be studied in relation to diverse aspects of society and education.
