전치사 좌초와 수반–이동에 대한 비교연구

Abstract

This paper is aimed at analyzing the preposition stranding and pied–piping in French PP–constructions in comparison with English counterparts. By re–verifying the proposed alternatives in the previous studies, we will derive several problems from them and propose the following analytic results. In French PP–constructions, differently from the English counterparts, a preposition strongly manifests binding capacity with the following DP. That means the paraphrasing, such as pronominalization, single neuter–pronominalization and a single interrogative, can be operated relatively freely. In particular, if we expand, on a syntactic basis, the argument of Kayne(1984) based on a lexical perspective, we can conclude that the DP complement of a PP–phase itself is prohibited from being moved out of the phase, conforming to PIC, because PPs in French form some kind of strong phase like CP or v*P. Finally, the phasehood of PPs in French will be a subject of our foreseeable future research.

본 연구는 프랑스어에서의 전치사 좌초(Preposition Stranding: 이하 P–S)와 전치사구–수반이동(Prepositional Phrase–Pied Piping: 이하 PP–PP)에 대한 분석을 다루고, 영어의 P–S와의 비교를 통해서 프랑스어 특유의 전치사구(Prepositional Phrase: 이하 PP)에 대한 매개변인적 특성을 도출하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 영어의 P–S에 대한 분석은 Riemsdijk (1978)을 시작으로 Hornstein & Weinburg (1981), Chomsky (1981), Kayne (1984), Zribi–Hertz (1986)와 Law (1998, 2006) 등에서 연구되었다. 본 논문에서는 이 학자들의 분석 결과를 프랑스어에 적용시키면서, 문제점을 살펴보고 프랑스어의 P–S분석과정에 나타난 특성들을 도출할 것이다. 결론적으로 프랑스어에서는 전치사구가, CP나 v*P처럼 분리–불가능한 하나의 강–국면(strong phase)을 구성하고 있으며, 특히 P–S는 어떠한 경우에도 적용되지 않고 의문사 이동의 경우 반드시 수반–이동되어야 한다는 것을 분석을 통해서 확인할 것이다.
