한국민속예술축제를 통한 지역 농악의 발굴과 보존

Abstract

1958년을 시작으로 지난 2012년까지 제53회 대회를 치른 한국민속예술축제(구 전국민속예술경연대회)는 각 지방의 고유한 향토민속예술을 발굴․재현하여, 이를 보존․계승할 것을 목적으로 매년 개최되는 전국 규모의 행사로, 우리나라 각 지역의 많은 문화재들을 발굴하고, 문화재 지정의 통로로서 역할하며, 많은 문화유산들이 지속․보존될 수 있도록 하였다는 데에 그 의의가 있다. 특별히 농악 부문에 한정하여 그 구체적인 성과를 정리하여 보면, 대회 초창기에는 각 지역 대표로 단순히 경기농악, 전북농악, 충북농악과 같은 형태의 농악팀들이 출전하였으나, 이후로 특정 지역 또는 마을에 오랜 기간 전승되어 온 고유의 농악들이 발굴되고 대회를 통해 선보이게 됨으로서, 마을 단위로 전승되어 오던 지역 농악 발굴의 원동력이 되었다. 뿐만 아니라, 일정 기간 단절되었던 농악이 재현되기도 하였고, 최근에는 전승되는 농악을 바탕으로 새롭게 작품화하는 경향도 나타나 더욱 다양한 농악 작품들이 생산되었다. 그리고 한국민속예술축제 출전을 계기로 다수의 농악이 국가 및 시․도지정문화재로 지정되어, 현재까지 활발한 전승 활동을 이루고 있다. 즉, 한국민속예술축제를 통한 문화유산의 발굴과 그 후속 조치로서 이루어지는 문화재 지정이라는 통로가 농악의 발굴과 보존을 위해 매우 주요 하였다고 할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 농악 보존을 위한 각 지역의 적극적이면서도 고른 노력이 있기를 바라고, 단 한 건의 농악도 문화재로 지정되지 않은 충청남도 지역에 조속히 농악의 문화재 지정이 이루어짐으로서, 향후 농악 문화가 더욱 활성화 될 수 있기를 바란다.

Korean Folk Art Festival has served as a passage to discover and designate many local cultural assets. As a result, it was possible for many cultural assets to be continuously preserved. Through the participation in the festival, many Nongak(Instrumental music of peasants) handed down in certain regions and villages have been discovered. And in some cases, Nongak that disappeared for a while were restored. In recent years, there is a trend of transforming traditional Nongak into new music and diverse Nongak have been created. In other words, Korean Folk Art Festival has been a driving force behind the discovery of local Nongak that have been handed down in villages. And through Korean Folk Art Festival, many local Nongak have been designated as national, provincial, or municipal cultural assets. But no Nongak has been designated as a cultural asset in Chungcheongnam-do and it is hoped that Nongak are designated as cultural assets in Chungcheongnam-do as well and folk music is equally well developed

in all areas.
