O humanismo na Europa do século XXI

Abstract

Partindo da ideia generalizada de que o Humanismo pode ser definido como um conjunto de ideais e princípios que valorizam as ações humanas, mormente a ética, a moral, o respeito, a justiça, a honra, o amor, a liberdade, a solidariedade, a responsabilidade e de que ele sofreu, ao longo de inúmeras centúrias, mutações relevantíssimas, tanto no seu conteúdo ontológico, como na forma de se manifestar na Humanidade, por força dos mais diversos eventos (sociais, religiosos, culturais, financeiros, económicos, políticos), que ocorreram e continuam a suceder, o cerne desta dissertação sustenta-se, essencialmente, nas grandes causas que hoje assolam o mundo moderno - em exclusivo na Europa -, procurando esclarecer e dentro do viável obter respostas para questões essenciais, como os recentes paradigmas sociológicos e culturais, os novos caminhos e desafios que surgem no proscénio europeu e internacional, assim como averiguar se o Humanismo está presente (ou não) na vida dos atores sociais, hodiernamente. Revisitando, inicialmente, o alvor do pensamento europeu e a génese do Humanismo no espaço europeu, procura-se posteriormente desenvolver, com mais acuidade, a profusão de questões gravíssimas que assolam a Europa, neste primeiro quartel do século XXI, tentando efetivar um exercício meditativo entre a realidade - aquilo que “foi”, e um futuro desejável - o que “deveria ser”. A metodologia de investigação utilizada tem como grupo-alvo a comunidade científica, respeitando criteriosamente, ipso facto, as formalidades que são apanágio de tal escolha, isto é, segue, como critério metodológico, os seguintes parâmetros: quanto ao propósito, trata-se de uma investigação básica; quanto à classificação, apresenta-se como uma investigação histórica e por ser um estudo qualitativo, emprega, na sua estrutura e evolução da mesma, um método diacrónico, heurístico e holístico.

Starting from the widespread idea, according to which Humanism can be defined as a set of ideals and principles that value human actions and morals, especially ethics, morality, respect, justice, honour, love, liberty, solidarity, responsibility, and also acknowledging the fact that, over the centuries, it has undergone important mutations, both in its ontological content, and in the way it has manifested itself in humanity, by virtue of the various (social, religious, cultural, financial, economic, political) events that have taken place and continue to take place in society, the core of this thesis is mainly centred upon the major issues disrupting the modern world, namely the European continent. It tries to clarify and, as far as possible, find answers to key issues, such as the recent sociological and cultural paradigms, the new paths and challenges emerging in the European and international proscenium, and also ascertain if, at the present time, Humanism plays a major role in the life of the social players. It starts by revisiting the dawn of European thought and the origin of Humanism in Europe, and subsequently explores a profusion of such relevant issues that keep distressing Europe in the first quarter of the 21st century, trying to mentally bridge the gap between the reality of what it “was”, and the desirable future - what it “should be”. The research methodology followed has the scientific community as a target group, and ipso facto, carefully respects the characteristic procedures of such a choice, i.e. it follows the following parametres as methodological criteria: regarding its objectives, it is a basic research work; regarding its classification, it is presented as historical research; and because it is a qualitative study, it uses a diachronic, heuristic and holistic method in its structure and development.
