Exploring principals’ purposes, experiences and perceptions of teacher appraisal in Victorian independent schools

This grounded theory study gives voice to the lived experiences of 12 independent school principals. Key findings concern the need for clarity of purpose and the significant role of a school as a community of learners/practice. Issues of accountability and whether appraisal processes significantly contribute to student learning outcomes are highlighted.
