The ideology of monarchy of Alexander Karađorđević king of Yugoslavia in the daily newspaper “Politika” in the years 1921-1934

Abstract

The purpose of the dissertation was to examine the relationship of the most important Yugoslav daily, "Politika", with the ideology proclaimed and implemented by King Aleksander I Karađorđević in the years 1921-1934. The introductory section outlines the evolution of King Alexander's political ideas, the role and impact of the press on shaping public opinion in the Kingdom of Serbia and the interwar Yugoslavia, and the history of the Politika daily. In the next one the structure of the press system and the main goal of the state's policy information were presented. The essence of the dissertation is an analysis of the content of the magazine in terms of its cooperation with the king, the propagation of the Yugoslav idea and the creation of the prestige of dynasty. The content, time, place, and the ways of presenting Alexander's political program in terms of domestic and foreign policy were taken into consideration. The results of the study allow to revise the existing views on Politika, deepen the knowledge about the state of affairs of Yugoslavian internal and international politics, and to show the complexity of King Alexander's political actions. The journal "Politika" the period 1921-1934 can not be described as a "propaganda tube of the government", but it also can not be considered as a fully independent journal. The most proper definition of the political slope of the title is that it was a prodynnastic one.
