Mythical and fairy-tale sources of the vision of the world in the sixteenth-century Polish romance - change in the longue durée
Abstract
Rozprawa poświęcona jest wizji świata zawartej w polskim romansie XVI wieku. Za główny przedmiot badań obrano romanse rycerskie stanowiące przekłady dzieł europejskiego średniowiecza. Poszukiwano w nich względnie stałego (sięgającego poza ramy epoki literackiej, a nawet wykraczającego trwałością poza granice formacji) zespołu przekonań i wyobrażeń o otaczającym świecie, ukształtowanych zarówno pod wpływem przekazywanych międzypokoleniowo tradycji, jak i opartych na podstawach naukowych. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono pierwotnym źródłom romansowego światopoglądu mitowi i baśni. Na potrzeby rozważań zostały one zdefiniowane jako wyobrażeniowo-narracyjne wzorce myślenia operujące swoistymi dla każdej z form systemami organizowania i interpretowania doświadczenia. Analiza wybranych utworów służyła odsłonięciu owych pierwotnych matryc poznawczych na poziomie fabularnym oraz narracyjnym i zbadaniu przekształceń, jakim były one poddawane. W tym celu przeanalizowano kreację romansowej czasoprzestrzeni, sposób przedstawienia bohatera oraz ład przejawiający się w rzeczywistości bohaterów romansu. Rozważania zamykają dywagacje nad trwałością wizji świata opartej na mitycznych i baśniowych źródłach w obliczu przemian kulturowych zachodzących w XVI wieku.
The dissertation is devoted to the vision of the world contained in the Polish romance of the sixteenth century. The main subject of the research was chivalric romances which were translations of European medieval works. A relatively stable (reaching beyond the frame of the literary era, and even extending beyond the boundaries of formation) set of beliefs and imaginations about the surrounding world, shaped both under the influence of intergenerational traditions and based on scientific foundations, was looked for. Particular attention was given to the primitive sources of the romance worldview myth and fairy tales. For the purposes of considerations, they were defined as imaginative and narrative thinking patterns. They operate systems of organizing and interpreting experience that are specific to each of the forms. The analysis of selected works served to uncover these primitive cognitive matrices at the plot and story levels and to examine the transformations that they were subjected to. For this purpose, the creation of the romance space-time, the way of presenting the hero and the order of the romance universe were analysed. The final deliberations concern the durability of the vision of the world that was based on mythical and fairy-tale sources in the face of cultural changes occurring in the sixteenth century.
