Abstract

Description

Photograph of five women in a field of cotton. The caption on the back states: "Five Texas Tech co-eds picked cotton on the college farm Saturday to secure the right kind of bolls which will be used in boutonnieres promotion cotton during the South Plains Maid of Cotton Contest, November 19-20. The girls represent two Tech honorary clubs, Theta Sigma Phi, honorary women's journalism fraternity, and Senior Women's Honorary Society which will make and sell boutonnieres in conjunction with the contest. The Maid of Cotton Committee, headed by Chairman Charles Signor, will encourage every merchant and employee to wear a cotton-boll boutonniere during the contest next week to focus attention on this area's greatest cash crop. Shown here are: left to right, Barbara Pearce, SWHS president; Nancy Kaisner, Theta; Joanne Holmes, SWHS; Melba Neely, Theta; and Sylvia Dieterling, SWHS.
