For this purpose, the GPS tracking of livestock was conducted to observe the behavioral patterns of grazing at both places. Remote sensing (Terra/MODIS satellite imagery) and ArcGIS, ENVI were used for analyzing the vegetation (NDVI) and grazing patterns (resting, feeding and movement time). Analysis of the spatial movements of livestock is based on GPS data, and its relation with NDVI values that were calculated using satellite imagery has showed that the NDVI was higher at distant from the ger places. Also, high NDVI values were observed at places that are intensively used by livestock. This is might be related with high volumes of unpalatable to livestock the plant species. These results were also proved by our ground vegetation survey. Limited availability of pastures in Inner Mongolia has resulted in grassland degradation, as indicated by the high speed of animal movements during grazing. In Mongolia, there is no physical restrictions to the animal movement. Because of these, the animal movement routes are changed every few days to avoid grazing pressure. However, the grazing pressure is high in river side and around wells. In Inner Mongolia, due to the the high grazing pressure, the general vegetation volume is reduced and volumes of annual plants, such as, Chenopodiaceae, Asteraceae and Liliaceae (all are low palatability plants) is increasing. Thorough examination of the GPS logged data has allowed estimation of resting, feeding and moving phases that are occurred during grazing.
