Résumé
In order for the Feasts of Saint Nicholas to enter the French Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, two French cities, Saint-Nicolas-de-Port and Nancy, must overcome their antagonism. Considering the territoriality of a festive practice not as a prerequisite but as a searchable space, evolving and subject to adjustments, this article attempts to qualify this process of territorialization prior to patrimonialization. Starting from an asymmetry between two cities, one with a glorious past thanks to a relic of Saint Nicholas and the other with a prosperous present to which the development of the Feasts of Saint Nicholas contributes, we will first consider the reasons for the opposition between these two cities. The illusory character of a binary structuring between religious tradition and contemporary claim will be demonstrated from the many operations—statutory, cultural, spatial, communicational, and legal—that help territorialize the festivities on both sides and shape the peculiarities in order to achieve a patrimonial consensus and a double recognition.
Para lograr el reconocimiento de las Fêtes de Saint-Nicolas en el inventario nacional del patrimonio cultural inmaterial, dos ciudades, Saint-Nicolas-de-Port y Nancy, deben superar su antagonismo. Considerando la territorialidad de una práctica festiva no como un prerrequisito sino como un espacio de búsqueda, en evolución y sujeto a ajustes, este artículo intenta calificar este proceso de territorialización previo a la patrimonialización. Partiendo de una asimetría entre dos ciudades, una con un pasado glorioso gracias a una reliquia de San Nicolás y la otra con un presente próspero al que contribuye el desarrollo de las Fiestas de San Nicolás, se considerarán en primer lugar los términos de la oposición entre estas dos ciudades. El carácter ilusorio de una estructuración binaria entre el mantenimiento del culto y la reivindicación contemporánea se demostrará a partir de las múltiples operaciones – estatutarias, culturales, espaciales, comunicacionales y legales – que ayudan a territorializar las festividades en ambos lados y a configurar las peculiaridades para lograr un consenso patrimonial y un doble reconocimiento.
Pour parvenir à la labellisation des fêtes de Saint-Nicolas à l’inventaire national du patrimoine culturel immatériel, deux villes, Saint-Nicolas-de-Port et Nancy, ont à dépasser leur antagonisme. Envisageant la territorialité d’une pratique festive non pas comme un prérequis mais un espace interrogeable, évolutif et soumis à ajustements, cet article s’attache à qualifier ce processus de territorialisation préalable à la patrimonialisation.
