The archaeological site of Akkaz (Fig. 1)
lies on the small former island of the same name, situated in the south-eastern part of the bay of Kuwait (Pl. I, p. 10; Fig. 2a). 1 A second island, Umm al-Namel, existed at the north-western edge of the bay; archaeological remains dated to the Bronze Age, the Hellenistic period and the Islamic period were discovered there. 2 These two islands were then transformed by the reorganisation of the bay and the extension of the industrial port of Shuwaikh. The island of Akkaz (al-Qurayn3 was its old name) originally covered 12,000 m2 and contained seven tells or archaeological mounds (Fig. 2b):

Le site archéologique d’Akkaz (Fig. 1) s’élevait à l’origine sur une petite île du même nom, située dans la partie sud-est de la baie de Koweït (Pl. I, p. 10 ; Fig. 2a) 1. Une deuxième île, Umm al‑Namel, existait en limite nord-ouest de la baie : des restes archéologiques datés de l’âge du Bronze, des périodes hellénistique et islamique, y ont été reconnus
2. Ces deux îles ont subi les conséquences de la réorganisation de la baie et de l’agrandissement du port industriel de Shuwaikh. À l’origine, l’île d’Akkaz (de son ancien nom al-Qurayn 3), couvrait environ 12 000 m2 et on y dénombrait sept tells ou éminences archéologiques (Fig. 2b) : «[ L’un d’eux relativement grand, subsiste encore, les autres, plus petits, peuvent atteindre deux à trois mètres de hauteur au-dessus
