The exploitation of common pool resources has been a subject studied over the last years by the social sciences such as Economics and Psychology. These resources are managed under conditions of strategic and environmental uncertainty, and a small change in the way information is presented to appropriators can change their extraction decisions. The objective of this dissertation is to find whether the decisions of common resources’ users change when a higher or smaller availability/detail of information is provided. To this end, we used experimental methods, applying a stochastic and dynamic game with uncertainty about the available resource amount, and the strategies of the other group members. We distinguish two treatments which differ in the way the information is presented to players. The experiment conditions follow the base line of the Botelho et al. (2014) paper, since it seeks to find whether individual behaviour is equivalent when the population is different. It also seeks to verify that the information details change the behaviour of the individuals. Indeed, increase the available information can lead to a less cooperative behaviour, leading to the common resource depletion more quickly. |
