Direção, ansiedade e performance

Abstract

A direção musical é uma atividade que envolve uma série de componentes, que vão desde a motricidade humana, memória e capacidade auditivas, conhecimentos técnicos, estéticos e históricos, até aos aspectos cognitivos. O objetivo deste estudo é identificar as várias causas que podem desencadear um nível de ansiedade acima do desejável para a boa performance. Pretende-se, igualmente, fornecer orientações para melhorar o desempenho de um diretor de orquestra de sopros. Esta investigação foi construída sob bases autobiográficas, tendo por base minha experiência como estudante de trompete, professor de linguagem musical e, posteriormente, como estudante de Direção Musical, na Universidade de Aveiro. O estudo revelou fragilidade na educação musical inicial a que fui submetido, e evidenciou a existência de um alto nível de ansiedade em performance, gerada por um traço de personalidade e pela contiguidade.

Musical conducting is an activity that involves a series of fundamentals, ranging from human motor skills, ear and memory training, technical, aesthetic and historical knowledge, to cognitive aspects. The aim of this study is to identify the various causes that could be generating an anxiety level higher than desirable for a good performance. Finally, it is also intended to provide guidance to improve the performance of a wind orchestra director. The completion of this investigation involved an autobiographical study, based on my own experience as a trumpet student, teacher of the musical language and, later, as student of Conducting at the University of Aveiro. The study revealed weakness in my earlier music education, and suggested a high level of performance anxiety, generated from a personality trait and due to contiguity.
