O Herding Behaviour e o sentimento: evidência no mercado português

Abstract

Este trabalho pretende estudar o comportamento de herding no mercado português, analisando o período compreendido entre 2003 e 2011. O objetivo é explorar o comportamento de herding entre os investidores do mercado acionista Português. Ao analisar a intensidade do herding, encontramos evidência estatisticamente significativa da existência de herding para as ações que compõem o índice PSI-20. Posteriormente, aplicamos testes de causalidade para avaliar o impacte do sentimento no herding, bem como em que medida a intensidade de herding influência o sentimento de mercado. Os resultados mostram evidência a favor da existência de causalidade entre estas duas variáveis em estudo.

This work intends to study the herding behavior in the Portuguese market, analyzing the 2003-2011 period. The objective is to explore the herding behavior among the investors of the Portuguese stock market. When analyzing the intensity of herding, we find statistical significant evidence of the existence of herding for the stocks of the PSI-20 index. Later, we apply causality tests to evaluate impact of the sentiment in herding, as well as where measured the intensity of herding influence the market sentiment. The results show evidence in favor of the causality existence between these two variables in study.
