History
Research statement
Background This report provides an overview of the project entitled Industry-university partnerships for SDG focused internships in Australia and India led by researchers from Deakin University in 2021 to 2022. The project focused on creating impactful, cross-border experiential learning opportunities focused on addressing sustainable development goals (SDGs) to strengthen Australia-India teaching and learning collaboration and knowledge exchange. It facilitated cross-sector dialogue to identify opportunities for tackling global challenges of shared importance to Australia and India by identifying strategies to formulate cost effective solutions to industry problems Contribution The project also identified key challenges related to the introduction and scaling up of cross-border SDG focused internships for host organisations, students, and higher education institutions. Based on the challenges and benefits identified a series of recommendations were developed for policy makers, higher education institutions and industry representatives to address the challenges identified and maximise the benefits from SDG focused cross-border internships. Significance The project highlighted key benefits associated with participation in internships including addressing skills shortages, minimising education-industry mismatches, enhancing students’ employability prospects and partnerships for impactfully advancing the global sustainability agenda. SDG focused internships build awareness of SDGs, foster global citizenship, and support students’ skill development (i.e., entrepreneurship, critical thinking, problem solving and working in teams).Editor/Contributor(s)
