Abstract

L’objectiu principal d’aquesta Tesi Doctoral és esbrinar les causes que dugueren al músic de principis del segle XIX a intentar buscar en l’aspecte econòmic vies alternatives de finançament que li permetessin el seu manteniment. En definitiva, documentar aquesta diversificació de l’activitat musical que li permeté mantenir la seva dignitat professional davant la institució que fins aquell moment havia exercit de mecenes i que en aquells moments es trobava amb dificultats econòmiques: l’Església. Per a poder dur a terme aquest objectiu, hem partit de l’estudi de la capella de música de la Catedral de Mallorca, analitzant quin era el seu funcionament, els mitjans econòmics i personals de què disposava i les reformes proposades i realitzades per a poder fer viable la seva pervivència davant la mala situació econòmica de la institució. Com a complement, hem estudiat l’activitat musical desenvolupada al teatre de Palma, tant de les companyies còmiques espanyoles com les d’òpera italiana: la gestió i l’administració teatral, les vicissituds que afectaren les companyies, els actors, cantants, ballarins i músics, el repertori interpretat i el públic que assistia a les funcions. També hem centrar la nostra atenció en altres diversions amb participació musical, com eren els balls públics de màscares realitzats durant l’època del carnestoltes i altres activitats esporàdiques, com els recitals, acadèmies i balls públics i privats. Per últim, hem estudiat la creació, presència i activitat de les bandes de música, tant militars com civils. Tot centrat en la figura del músic preromàntic com a principal protagonista i en un període històric de profunds canvis socials.


The main objective of this thesis is to find out the reasons that led the musician of the early nineteenth century to try to look at the economic alternative ways of financing that will allow his maintenance. In short, this document diversification of musical activity that allowed him to keep his professional dignity to the institution which until then had served as patron and who at that time was experiencing economic difficulties: the Church. To carry out this goal, we started the study of the music chapel of the Cathedral of Mallorca, analyzing what his operation, economic and personal means, and which had the reforms proposed and realized to make possible its survival to the poor economic situation of the institution. As a complement, we studied the musical activity developed in the theatre of Palma, both spanish companies, such as comic, and Italian opera: theatre management and administration, the vicissitudes that affected companies, actors, singers, dancers and musicians, the repertoire performed and the public who attended the functions. We have also focused our attention on other diversions involving music and dancing were made public masks dances during the carnival and other sporadic activities such as concerts and public and private dances. Finally, we studied the creation, presence and activity of the bands, both military and civilians. Although centred on the figure of the pre-romantic musician and historic period of profound social changes.
