The hypothesis presented here is that there is a syndrome of the protagonist in progress in contemporaneity, whose structures of feeling were forged in the culture of the media. In this condition are ordinary people to rise themselves to the media visibility, through participation in a spectacles of reality — a new genre that includes the format of the television reality show, but also the letters and testimonials to sections of readers of newspapers or magazines, radio programmes and internet blogs. It is considered that the historical premise for the protagonism — the right to expression of the ordinary people, now exacerbated in the personality cult — located in the Romantic Movement and that the spectacles of reality are heirs of the aesthetics of roman-feuilleton (this even an emotional exacerbation of the romantics’ proposes) and the fait divers, the emotional format of journalism. Therefore, the ordinary people, when they emerge from their place in the audiences to become character media, seeking their models of action in the stock characters who had their origin in the newspaper serials and is consolidated, later, on the radio and television soap operas. There is then a proposal for a mapping of the stock characters of spectacles of reality.
