Study addresses heat transfer measurement - local Nusselt number evaluation in case of round impinging jet issuing from long straight pipe nozzle. Key problem consists in heat flux measurement using thermopile sensor. Low Reynolds numbers (Re = 2250–3010) are focused. Heat transfer is highly influenced by intermittency and transition - non-monotonic relationship between Nusselt and Reynolds numbers occurs. Although experiments are well repeatable, comparison with reference experimental data indicates surprisingly large discrepancy. Main reason is sensitivity of laminar-turbulent transition to disturbances. On the other hand, results in laminar and fully turbulent regimes are in reasonable agreement with literature.
