Abstract
Turizmin bulunduğu bölge üzerinde kültürel, sosyal, ekonomik ve çevresel etkileri bulunmaktadır. Bir destinasyon bölgesinde gerçekleşen turizm faaliyetlerinin çeşitliliği, turizm faaliyetlerinin on iki aya yayılmasında önemli etkenlerden biridir. Ayrıca turizm faaliyetlerinin çeşitli olması hem bölgesel kalkınmayı hem de bölgeler arası ekonomik dengesizlikleri gidermede önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Ortaya çıkan bu etkilerin yerel halk açısından olumlu ya da olumsuz algılanması bölgede turizm faaliyetlerinin sürekliliği yönünden büyük bir önem arz etmektedir. 20. yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren turizm sektörünün giderek önemini arttırmasıyla birlikte alternatif turizm türleri üzerinde durulmaya başlanmıştır. Alternatif turizm türleri içinde yer alan ve birçok turizm türünü de içinde bulunduran kırsal turizm, turizm ile tarım sektörüne olan katkısı nedeniyle üzerinde oldukça durulan ve geliştirilmesi yönünde uygulamaları olan bir turizm türüdür. Bu çalışmada Artvin'in kırsal turizm potansiyelini belirleyerek kırsal turizmin kırsal kalkınmadaki önemini vurgulamak, yörenin güçlü-zayıf yönlerini, tehdit ve fırsatlarını ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; Artvin yöresinin kırsal turizm açısından oldukça güçlü bir potansiyele sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Kırsal alanlarda kalkınmanın kırsal turizmin gelişimi ile sağlanabileceği ve bölgenin temel geçim kaynağı olan tarım ve hayvancılık sektörlerinin kalkınmaya olan faydasını güçlendirmekte kırsal turizmin önemli bir katkı yaratacağı, ancak bu potansiyelden henüz yeterli düzeyde faydalanılamadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
