Reflection of solitary waves from porous structures.
Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (1989-01-01)
Presents experimental data on the characteristics of the reflected wave which forms when a solitary wave meets a vertical porous structure. The wave flume laboratory experiments and results are discussed. Deformation of the reflected wave observed in these experiments was further investigated in computer simulation studies and is described in detail. The major findings of the study were: the reflected wave initially has the same value of the pulse width (phase) parameter as the incoming solitary wave, its p...
Radiation of dipoles in multilayered cylinder with ferrite layer
Aydin, O; Hizal, A (1996-07-26)
Radiation characteristics of infinitesimal dipole in multilayered circular cylindrical structure including gyromagnetic media are investigated. Transversal field equations in spectral domain are obtained for gyromagnetic medium in cylindrical coordinates. These expressions are formed into a set of linear differential equations. The solution at each layer is expressed in terms of state transition matrices. Fields are matched at the interfaces. Far fields are evaluated asymptotically. The effects of changing ...

Simulation of the Scattered Field From a Vibrating Tumor Inside the Tissue Using 3D-FDTD Method
Top, Can Baris; Gençer, Nevzat Güneri (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-06-01)
A simulation method for calculating the scattered field from a small, vibrating breast tumor is given. The Volume Equivalence Principle together with subcell type finite difference time domain formulation is used for obtaining the scattered field from the tumor. The Doppler component of the scattered field is calculated using the simulation results for the undisplaced and the displaced positions of the tumor. The method is validated by comparing the results obtained on a sample problem with the results of a...
Measurement of residual stress in air plasma-sprayed Y2O3-ZrO2 thermal barrier coating system using micro-Raman spectroscopy
Tanaka, Makoto; Hasegawa, Makoto; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi; Kagawa, Yutaka (2006-03-15)
Residual stress in air plasma-sprayed Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 thermal barrier coating (TBC) has been measured using micro-Raman spectroscopy. The frequency shift of Raman peak from tetragonal phase (approximate to 640 cm(-1)) is used for determination of local stress in TBC. The relation between Raman peak shift and applied uniaxial stress is measured using a freestanding specimen. The relation is used to determine actual residual stress of the TBC layer coated on a stainless steel substrate. The uniaxial stre...
