Effect of copper alloying on fatigue life and fatigue crack growth behaviour of ductile cast irons
Gürbüz, Rıza; Kalkanlı, Ali (2004-01-01)
Specimens cut out and machined from Cu alloyed (about 1.6%) and unalloyed (less than 0.012%) ductile cast iron ingots were tested under cycling loading to reveal the effect of copper addition on fatigue performance. The influence of solidification rate and hence the microstructure were also studied by preparing sand cast and die cast ingots from each composition. Some high copper die cast specimens were annealed to spheroidize and homogenize the matrix's pearlite structure. All experiments were carried out ...

Effect of microstructure on the tribological properties of apatite-wollastonite glass ceramic
Park, Jong-Ee; Öztürk, Abdullah; You, Sang-Hee; Park, Sam-Sik; Bae, Won-Tae; Shin, Dong-Woo (2008-06-01)
A relationship between microstructure and the tribological properties of Apatite-Wollastonite glass ceramics (A-W GC), fabricated by different techniques of melt casting and powder packing processing, was studied. The surface crystallization of wollastonite caused a unique surface strengthening in an A-W GC prepared by the melt casting process. The wear rate did not vary between the free surface and interior in an A-W GC made by the powder packing process, whereas an increase of the wear rate with an increa...
Effect of increased volume of fibers on the fracture properties of cementitious composites
Altürk, Ufuk Emre; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
To apply fiber as a reinforcement, which is much older than the history of concrete, together with concrete is rather a new technology, while cement based products are the most consumed materials after water, considering the consumption amounts. The application areas of fiber reinforced concrete are growing day by day. However, in common practice, fiber content is usually limited up to 2% due to economical, workability and agglomeration problems. This study investigates the changes in the performance of nin...
