Modeling of helically applied current to the inductively coupled radio frequency plasma torch in two dimensions
Cantürk, Mehmet; Bilikmen, Kadri Sinan; Department of Physics (2004)
The electrodeless plasma discharge is typically driven by radio frequency (RF) power supply within the range (0.2 Ł 40 MHz). The applied power is coupled into the plasma inductively called inductively coupled plasma (ICP). RF ICP technique has achieved significance importance in a diversity of research and industrial applications for over the last threes decades. It is still required to undertake both theoretical and experimental research. In this work, RF ICP technique is applied on the torch modeling in 2...
Performance comparison of message passing decoding algorithms for binary and non-binary low density parity check (LDPC) codes
Uzunoğlu, Cihan; Yücel, Melek D; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In this thesis, we investigate the basics of Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes over binary and non-binary alphabets. We especially focus on the message passing decoding algorithms, which have different message definitions such as a posteriori probabilities, log-likelihood ratios and Fourier transforms of probabilities. We present the simulation results that compare the performances of small block length binary and non-binary LDPC codes, which have regular and irregular structures over GF(2),GF(4) and GF...
Eta-eta prime mixing in chiral perturbation theory
Kokulu, Ahmet; Özpineci, Altuğ; Department of Physics (2008)
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is believed to be the theory of strong interactions. At high energies, it has been successfully applied to explain the interactions in accelerators. At these energies, the method used to do the calculations is perturbation theory. But at low energies, since the strong coupling constant becomes large, perturbation theory is no longer applicable. Hence, one needs non-perturbative approaches. Some of these approaches are based on the fundamental QCD Lagrangian, such as the QCD sum ...
On self-interference cancellation in wireless full duplex
Öncel, Aksay Fatih; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Koçer, Fatih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
Full duplex is a newly promising duplexing method. Unlike traditional time division or frequency division duplexing, in full duplex the transmit and receive signals of a transceiver are active at the same time and in the same frequency band. This can double the spectral efficiency. However, since the transmit signal is typically much more powerful than the receive signal at the receive antenna, it acts as a strong interferer to the received signal and this interference must be mitigated first, in order to f...
Performance of pseudo-random and quasi-cyclic low density parity check codes
Kazancı, Onur Hüsnü; Diker Yücel, Melek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
The feasibility of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) through the wall surveillance system is studied in this thesis. The transmitter and receiver architectures are discussed and an experimental set-up is constructed to verify the theory of UWB sensing. The constructed system has 80 mW peak, 6 uW average transmit power and 500 kHz PRF and a range resolution better than 1 cm. Using the experimental set-up, two problems are examined. The first problem is the respiration rate detection problem. It has been shown that the r...
