High-rate anaerobic treatment of digestate using fixed film reactors
Ülgüdür, Nilüfer; Bayramoğlu, Tuba Hande; Uludağ-Demirer, Sibel; Demirer, Göksel (Elsevier BV, 2019-09-01)
The effluent stream of the anaerobic digestion processes, the digestate, accommodates high residual organic content that needs to be further treated before discharge. Anaerobic treatment of digestate would not only reduce the residual organic compounds in digestate but also has a potential to capture the associated biogas. High-rate anaerobic reactor configurations can treat the waste streams using lower hydraulic retention times which requires less footprint opposed to the conventional completely stirred t...

Full-Wave Electromagnetic Optimisation of Corrugated Metallic Reectors Using a Multigrid Approach
KARAOVA, Gokhan; ALTINOKLU, Askin; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2018-01-19)
A multigrid optimisation strategy is introduced to design passive metallic reflectors with corrugated shapes. The strategy is based on using genetic algorithms at multiple grids and shaping the metal sheets, starting from coarse details to fine tunings. This corresponds to a systematic expansion of the related optimisation space, which is explored more efficiently in comparison to a brute-force optimisation without using grid. By employing the multilevel fast multipole algorithm to analyse the electromagnet...

Fast pyrolysis of Turkish hazelnut shell by using novel wire mesh reactor
Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza; Gürel, Kaan (null; 2018-04-27)
The present paper studies fast pyrolysis of Turkish hazelnut shell under various conditions in a novel wire mesh reactor (WMR). Particular emphasis was given to understand volatile yield at high heating rates at elevated temperatures. Volatile yields from fast pyrolysis (~3000 ºC/s) showed higher values from both as received (80 wt.%) and dried fuels (85 wt.%) than proximate analysis (PA) (75 wt. %) done at low heating rates (20 ºC/min). Brunauer–Emmitt–Teller (BET) surface analysis was carried out to deter...
