Modeling and analysis of surface roughness of microchannels produced by mu-WEDM using an ANN and Taguchi method
Jafari, Rahim; Kahya, Muge; Oliaei, Samad Nadimi Bavil; ÜNVER, HAKKI ÖZGÜR; Okutucu Özyurt, Hanife Tuba (2017-11-01)
Microchannel heat exchangers are used to remove the high heat fluxes generated in compact electronic devices. The roughness of the microchannels has a significant effect on the heat transfer characteristics, especially the nucleate boiling and pumping power. Therefore, development of predictive models of surface texture is of significant importance in controlling heat transfer characteristics of these devices. In this study, micro-Wire electrical discharge machining (mu-WEDM) was employed to fabricate metal...
Modeling of inelastic behavior of curved members with a mixed formulation beam element
Sarıtaş, Afşin (Elsevier BV, 2009-04-01)
The curved beam element in this paper is based on Hu-Washizu variational principle. The nonlinear response of the element arises from the integration of stress-strain relations over several control sections along the element length. The finite element approximation for the beam uses shape functions for stress resultants that satisfy equilibrium and discontinuous strains along the beam. No approximation for the beam displacement field is necessary in the formulation. The proposed element is free from membran...
Modeling of mixed-mode delamination in composite t-joints
Gülaşık, Hasan; Çöker, Demirkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2014)
Stiffened panel, consisting of skin and stiffeners, is the main design option for aerospace structures. When manufactured with laminated composite materials, they provide high strength/stiffness to weight ratio, resulting in high performance and less fuel consumption. T-joint is one of the typical configurations for composite stiffened panels which consist of a skin panel and stiffeners co-bonded or co-cured together with a filler material between them. T-joints are prone to delaminations between skin/stiff...
Modeling and design of iron-core shunt reactors with discretely distributed air-gaps
Dönük, Atilla; Ermiş, Muammer; Bilgin, Hazım Faruk; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
In this research work detailed parallel and series equivalent circuits of a gapped iron-core shunt reactor with discretely distributed gaps are derived. The validity of the recommended equivalent circuits is verified by Finite Element Analysis and laboratory tests. Effects of fringing flux and discretely distributed gaps on inductance parameters and reactor losses are also investigated. Moving Strip Method for discretely distributed gapped shunt reactors is recommended. Two design procedures for shunt react...
MODELING OF DYNAMIC DELAMINATION IN L-SHAPED COMPOSITE BRACKETS
Gozluklu, Burak; Çöker, Demirkan (2012-11-15)
One of the widely used geometrically complex parts in recent civil passenger aircrafts is the L-shaped composite brackets connecting ribs to skins. Due to the sharp curved geometry, interlaminar opening stresses are induced and delamination occurs under considerable mode-mixities at the corner. Dynamic phenomena during delamination initiation and propagation of L-shaped beams are investigated using dynamic (explicit) finite element analysis in conjunction with cohesive zone methods (CZM). In ABAQUS a sequen...
