Two novel chemiluminescent monomers, 2,3-dihydrothieno(3,4-d)pyridazine-1,4-dione (T-Lum) and 5,7-di-thiophen-2-yl-2,3-dihydro-thieno[3,4-d]pyridazine-1,4-dione (TTT-Lum), were synthesized. The reaction between T-Lum and TTT-Lum in alkaline solution with H2O2 gave chemiluminescence which can be catalyzed using Fe(III) ion. Owing to its sensitivitiy towards Fe(III) ion; T-Lum and TTT-Lum can be promising materials to detect bloodstains in the application of forensic science instead of luminol which gave response to a large family of metallic cations beside Fe(III). Also, TTT-Lum, which is based on a terthienyl system, was electropolymerized and its corresponding polymer (PTTT-Lum) was obtained via repetitive cycling or constant potential electrolysis in both 0.1 M LiClO4 dissolved in acetonitrile containing 5% of BF3-Et2O by volume and neat BF3- Et2O solution. In addition, PTTT-Lum, soluble in alkaline water, was synthesized successfully without breaking the pyridazinedione unit (chemiluminescent unit), as proved by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Electrochemical Luminescence (ECL) measurements. Thus, PTTT-Lum, bearing chemiluminescent unit, can be a good candidate to be used as a sensor in near future. Furthermore, the PTTT-Lum film has a very stable and well-defined reversible redox couple as well as electrochromic behavior during p-doping process. The polymer film has also a band gap of 1.74 eV with an absorption band in its neutral state at 536 nm. Finally, PTTT-Lum film was found to be electrochemiluminescence active, maintaining its activitiy over 1000 cycles.

A novel electrically conducting polymer, poly(2-dodecyl-4,7-di(selenophen-2-yl)benzotriazole) (Poly(SBT)), containing selenophene as a strong donor and benzotriazole as a strong acceptor group was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization. Homopolymerization and copolymerization ( in the presence of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) ) was achieved in acetonitrile/ dichloromethane(95/5 v/v) with 0.1M tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6). The electrochemical and optical properties of homopolyme...

A new thiophene derivative containing menthyl group (MM) was synthesized and polymerized via chemical and electrochemical methods. Polymers obtained and MM itself were used to synthesize copolymers with pyrrole under conditions of constant potential electrolysis. Cyclic Voltammetry, thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy analyses were performed for the characterization of samples. Immobilization of invertase and polyphenol oxidase enzymes was performed in the matrices obtained via copolymerizatio...
Hydrologel from template polymerization of methacrylic acid and n-vinylpyrollidone and polyethleneoxide
Erdem, Yelda; Tinçer, Teoman; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2005)
This theses covers the preparation and the characterization of a rigid hydrogel from N-Vinyl pyrrolidone-methacrylic acid (VP-MAA) monomers and polyethyleneoxide (PEO) polymer. Hydrogels are hydrophillic natured three dimensional networks which can swell in the presence of water. The VP-MAA-PEO hydrogel was obtained by template polymerization which can be defined as a method of polymer synthesis in which specific interactions consists of the preparation of a polymer (daughter polymer) in the presence of a m...
Activity analysis of immobilized tyrosinase in the presence of different inhibitors
Narlı, Işıl; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2006)
Immobilization of tyrosinase enzyme was performed in the matrices obtained via copolymerization of terephthalic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl ethyl) ester (TATE) with pyrrole. During electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole, enzyme molecules were entrapped in the copolymer matrice. Activity measurements were performed by using Besthorn̕s Hydrazone method which includes spectrophotometric analysis of quinones produced by the enzyme. Enzyme electrodes were characterized in terms of maximum reaction rate (Vmax) a...
High optical transparency in all redox states: Synthesis and characterization of benzimidazole and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene containing conjugated polymers
Zaifoglu, Buket; Sendur, Merve; Unlu, Naime Akbasoglu; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2012-12-15)
The synthesis of a novel monomer based on benzimidazole and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene moieties, 4'-tert-butyl-4,7-di(thieno[3,2-b]thiophen-2-yl)spiro[benzo[d]imidazole-2,1'-cyclohexane] (TTBI), and its electrochemical polymerization are reported. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies of the polymer were investigated. The high optical transparency and low coloration efficiency during oxidation and reduction processes make the polymer a great candidate for hole-injection layers in light-emitting dio...
