Piriformospora indica is an endophyte with the ability to colonize roots and it is cultivable. It forms a specific type of mycorrhiza symbiosis with a broad spectrum of plant species, promoting plant growth and biomass production and also induction of resistance against pathogens. In this study our aim is to test Piriformospora indica against powdery wildew in barley and Puccinia striiformis in wheat to determine best application method of P. indica to assess the induction of resistance. Also we aimed to develop a procedure that enables the usage P. indica in large scale agricultural applications. To achieve our goals, we applied P. indica in different spore concentrations and in different form as powder and liquid cultures. After establishing symbiosis with P. indica on plants, the plant leaves were infected with pathogens. The disease formations were evaluated in comparison with the control group of plant samples (without Piriformospora indica)

Evaluation of site effect within the tectonic basin in the northern side of Ankara
Eker, Arif Mert; Kockar, Mustafa Kerem; Akgün, Haluk (2015-06-18)
This study mainly concentrates on the determination of site effects for the Plio-Quaternary and especially alluvial soils of the Cubuk district and its close vicinity in Ankara, Turkey. In the study area, particularly in the vicinity of the asymmetric graben that has formed due to the tectonic activities along the NE-SW trending normal faults, a microtremor survey was implemented to identify the local site response under a possible seismic event. The results were compared and correlated by using passive and...
Investigating the roles of micrornas in biotic stress responses and functional characterization of a novel ztl-type f-box protein via virus induced gene silencing
Dağdaş, Yasin Fatih; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Department of Biotechnology (2009)
Barley and wheat are the two most important crop species in Turkey. Molecular studies for increasing crop yield of these species are very important for the economic benefits of Turkey. Powdery mildew and yellow rust are the two main pathogens, infecting barley and wheat, respectively in our country and causing a great amount of yield loss each year. Till now, classical genetics studies were performed in order to develop resistant barley and wheat cultivars, but these studies have not been succesful. Therefo...
Review of post-collisional volcanism in the Central Anatolian Volcanic Province (Turkey), with special reference to the Tepekoy Volcanic Complex
KUŞCU, GONCA; Geneli, Fatma (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2010-04-01)
Neogene-Quaternary post-collisional volcanism in Central Anatolian Volcanic Province (CAVP) is mainly characterized by calc-alkaline andesites-dacites, with subordinate tholeiitic-transitional-mildly alkaline basaltic volcanism of the monogenetic cones. Tepekoy Volcanic Complex (TVC) in Nigde area consists of base surge deposits, and medium to high-K andesitic-dacitic lava flows and basaltic andesitic flows associated with monogenetic cones. Tepekoy lava flows petrographically exhibit disequilibrium texture...
Electrochromic Properties of a Copolymer of 1-4-Di[2,5-di(2-thieny1)-1H-1-pyrroly1]benzene with EDOT
KİRALP, S; ÇAMURLU, PINAR; Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; Tanyeli, Cihangir; AKHMEDOV, I; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2009-04-15)
Homopolymer of 1-4-di[2,5-di(2-thienyl)- 1H-1-pyrroly1]benzene and its copolymer with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) were electrochemically synthesized and characterized. Resulting homopolymer and copolymer films have distinct electrochromic properties. At the neutral state, homopolymer has lambda(max) due to the pi-pi* transition as 410 nm and E-g was calculated as 2.03 eV. The resultant copolymer revealed multichromism through the entire visible region, displaying red-violet, brownish yellow green, and...
Active Films Based on Faba Bean (Vicia faba L.) Flour Incorporated with Sumac (Rhus coriaria): Assessment of Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Performances of Packaging for Shelf Life of Chicken Breast
Emir, Ayca Aydogdu; Yıldız, Eda; AYDOĞDU, YILDIRIM; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm (2022-11-01)
Sumac (Rhus coriaria) cultivated mainly in the Mediterranean region, Eastern and Western North America, South Africa, and Asia is rich in phenolic compounds, especially tannins, anthocyanins, and flavones. For this reason, the sumac extract has the potential to be incorporated in the films that could be used as active packaging material. For that purpose, this study aimed to develop the best biodegradable and eco-friendly active food package made from faba bean flour and sumac extract. To evaluate the films...
