In this thesis, radio direction finding (DF) systems are examined, implementation and measurements for GSM mobile phones are done by using 6-element uniform circular Vivaldi antenna array and uniform circular monopole antenna array which is used asWatsonWatt antenna. Although degrading in performance of DF is expected, only one receiver unit is used in angle-of-arrival (AOA) to measure received signal strength (RSS) from each antenna elements to obtain low cost and small sized set-up. Moreover three di erent algorithms are implemented with the DF arrays Least Square (MLS), Maximum Likelihood (ML) and Multiple Signal Characterization(MUSIC). Finally experimental performance evaluation of amplitude comparison DF set-ups with single receiver will be given in this study.

Wideband omnidirectional and sector coverage antenna arrays for base stations
Alatan, Lale (2018-01-01)
By using parallel strip line fed printed dipole antennas as array elements, an omnidirectional antenna array and a wide angle sector coverage array operating in octave band are designed. A maximum deviation of ±1.25 dB from the omnidirectional pattern is achieved for the omnidirectional array, and the average gain of the antenna was measured as being 5 dB in the 1.35–2.7GHz band. For the sector coverage array, a special reflector design is utilized to maintain a half power beam width of around 115◦ with a s...
Out-of-band radiation and CFO immunity of potential 5G multicarrier modulation schemes
Üçüncü, Ali Bulut; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
In this study, generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) and windowed cyclic prefix circular offset quadrature amplitude modulation (WCP-COQAM), which are candidate physical layer modulation schemes for the 5G systems, are compared to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in terms of out-of-band (OOB) radiation levels and carrier frequency offset (CFO) immunity. GFDM and WCP- COQAM are shown to be superior to OFDM with respect to OOB emissions in some studies in literature. However, we c...
Reconfigurable CPW-FED dual-frequency rectangular slot antenna using RF MEMS technology
Erdil, Emre; Topalli, Kagan; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Akın, Tayfun (2005-07-08)
A reconfigurable dual-frequency rectangular slot antenna using MEMS technology is presented. In this structure, a rectangular slot antenna is integrated with MEMS cantilever type capacitors. Simulation results show that the structure has a dual frequency behavior where both of the resonant frequencies can be reconfigured dynamically. By the actuation of MEMS cantilevers, the lower resonant frequency shifts 1.2 GHz, whereas the higher resonant frequency has a shift of 330 MHz without any distortion of the ra...
Three Dimensional Microfabricated Broadband Patch and Multifunction Reconfigurable Antennae for 60 GHz Applications
Hunerli, H. V.; Mopidevi, H.; Cagatay, E.; Imbert, M.; Romeu, J.; Jofre, L.; Cetiner, B. A.; BIYIKLI, NECMİ (2015-05-17)
In this paper we present two antenna designs capable of covering the IEEE 802.11ad (WiGig) frequency band (57-66 GHz and 59-66 GHz respectively). The work below reports the design, microfabrication and characterization of a broadband patch antenna along with the design and microfabrication of multifunction reconfigurable antenna (MRA) in its static form excluding active switching. The first design is a patch antenna where the energy is coupled with a conductor-backed (CB) coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed loop s...
Theoretical investigation and design of wideband dielectric resonator antennas
Yüksel, Yılmaz Çağrı; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
The aim of this thesis is to utilize Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRA) as array elements due to their advantages over other conventional antenna elements such as dipoles and microstrip patches. Depending on both the excitation mechanisms and the antenna shape, a Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) provides its designer multiple independent degrees of freedom. In this thesis three antenna shapes, namely hemispherical, cylindrical and rectangular DRAs, are investigated. The cylindrical and the rectangular sh...
