The transformations of W-type entangled states by using local operations assisted with classical communication are investigated. For this purpose, a parametrization of the W-type states which remains invariant under local unitary transformations is proposed and a complete characterization of the local operations carried out by a single party is given. These are used for deriving the necessary and sufficient conditions for deterministic transformations. A convenient upper bound for the maximum probability of distillation of arbitrary target states is also found. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3481573]

The path integral quantization and the construction of the S-matrix operator in the Abelian and non-Abelian Chern-Simons theories
Fainberg, VY; Pak, Namık Kemal; Shikakhwa, MS (IOP Publishing, 1997-06-07)
The covariant path integral quantization of the theory of the scalar and spinor fields interacting through the Abelian and non-Abelian Chern-Simons gauge fields in 2 + 1 dimensions is carried out using the De Witt-Fadeev-Popov method. The mathematical ill-definiteness of the path integral of theories with pure Chern-Simons' fields is remedied by the introduction of the Maxwell or Maxwell-type (in the non-Abelian case) terms, which make the resulting theories super-renormalizable and guarantees their gauge-i...
Symmetry reductions of a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation arising in financial mathematics
Naicker, V; Andriopoulos, K; Leach, PGL (Informa UK Limited, 2005-05-01)
We determine the solutions of a nonlinear Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation which arises in the modelling of mean-variance hedging subject to a terminal condition. Firstly we establish those forms of the equation which admit the maximal number of Lie point symmetries and then examine each in turn. We show that the Lie method is only suitable for an equation of maximal symmetry. We indicate the applicability of the method to cases in which the parametric function depends also upon the time.
Deterministic transformations of multipartite entangled states with tensor rank 2
Turgut, Sadi; PAK, NAMIK KEMAL (American Physical Society (APS), 2010-01-01)
Transformations involving only local operations assisted with classical communication are investigated for multipartite entangled pure states having tensor rank 2. All necessary and sufficient conditions for the possibility of deterministically converting truly multipartite, rank-2 states into each other are given. Furthermore, a chain of local operations that successfully achieves the transformation has been identified for all allowed transformations. The identified chains have two nice features: (1) each ...
Self-dual Yang-Mills fields in eight dimensions
Bilge, AH; Dereli, T; Kocak, S (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1996-03-01)
Strongly self-dual Yang-Mills fields in even-dimensional spaces are characterised by a set of constraints on the eigenvalues of the Yang-Mills fields F-mu nu. We derive a topological bound on R(8), integral(M)(F, F)(2) greater than or equal to k integral(M) p(1)(2), where p(1) is the first Pontryagin class of the SO(n) Yang-Mills bundle, and k is a constant. Strongly self-dual Yang-Mills fields realise the lower bound.
A new integrable generalization of the Korteweg-de Vries equation
Karasu-Kalkanli, Ayse; Karasu, Atalay; Sakovich, Anton; Sakovich, Sergei; TURHAN, REFİK (AIP Publishing, 2008-07-01)
A new integrable sixth-order nonlinear wave equation is discovered by means of the Painleve analysis, which is equivalent to the Korteweg-de Vries equation with a source. A Lax representation and an auto-Backlund transformation are found for the new equation, and its traveling wave solutions and generalized symmetries are studied.
