Thin film piezoelectric acoustic transducer for fully implantable cochlear implants
Ilık, Bedirhan; Koyuncuoglu, Aziz; Sardan-Sukas, Ozlem; Külah, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2018-09-01)
This paper reports the development of a single cantilever thin film PLD-PZT transducer prototype. The device was experimentally characterized by attaching it on an acoustically vibrating membrane resembling the behavior of the eardrum. Acceleration characteristic of the sensor attached on the membrane was obtained by using a Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) as the output voltage was measured by an oscilloscope. A voltage output of 114 mV was obtained, when the device was excited at 110 dB Sound Pressure Level...
Thin film thermoelectric energy harvesters for MEMS micropower generation
Topal, Emre Tan; Külah, Haluk; Muhtaroglu, Ali (2010-12-01)
In this study, we propose a novel thin film thermoelectric energy harvester design based on Cr-Ni thermocouples overlayed on top of a suspended parylene diaphragm. The TE energy harvester can be used to harvest excess heat energy generated at the hot spots in a computer platform. The design can be merged with the previously reported EM energy harvester within a MEMS device to scavenge energy from both vibrations and thermals in a hybrid mode of operation. The performance evaluation of the MEMS integrated th...
Thin ECC overlay systems for rehabilitation of rigid concrete pavements
Yucel, Hasan Erhan; Jashami, Hisham; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Güler, Murat; Sahmaran, Mustafa (2013-01-01)
The use of rigid overlays has become increasingly popular. The main purpose of an overlay is to extend the service life of the structure and increase the structural performance and durability of a wearing surface. The superior ductility and durability characteristics of engineered cementitious composites (ECC) suggest that they could be used as an attractive alternative to conventional concrete overlay materials. In this study, the performance of ECC overlay designed at different thicknesses is investigated...
Thin spray-on liner adhesive strength test method and effect of liner thickness on adhesion
Öztürk, Hasan (Elsevier BV, 2010-07-01)
The adhesive strength between a thin spray-onliner(TSL) and rock is an important property controlling the designandperformanceofTSLrocksupportsystems. The advantages and disadvantages of various adhesion test methods used by the coatings, microelectronics and concrete industries with respect to TSLs are discussed. A suggested test method for TSL materials is presented, which is based on direct pull-off of an elevator bolt that is attached to a liner with strong epoxy. To interpret the test results correctly...
