A novel sub-wavelength metamaterial structure, called a single loop resonator, is presented, providing two separate magnetic resonance frequencies in addition to an electric resonance in the microwave region. Transmission and reflection characteristics of the proposed topology are simulated using both Ansoft HFSS software and CST Microwave Studio software for the verification of numerical results. Effective medium parameters of this metamaterial structure are also extracted to demonstrate the presence of two separate frequency bands with negative effective permeability.

Nested U-ring resonators: a novel multi-band metamaterial design in microwave region
Turkmen, O.; EKMEKÇİ, Evren; Sayan, Gönül (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2012-07-17)
In this study, a novel metamaterial topology, called M-band nested U-ring resonator (M-NURR), is proposed to provide multiple band operation with an electrically small and geometrically simple unit cell design. The M-NURR unit cell has M-nested and unconnected U-shaped metal rings printed on a dielectric substrate where each ring is primarily associated with a distinct LC type resonance frequency where L and C stand for inductance and capacitance, respectively. Therefore this M-NURR topology has the novel p...
Triple stub circuit topology as simultaneous insertion phase, amplitude and impedance control circuit for phased array applications
Unlu, M.; Demir, Şimşek; Akın, Tayfun (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2012-10-23)
This study shows that the well-known triple stub circuit topology can also be used for controlling the insertion phase and amplitude of a given signal simultaneously, as well as preserving its impedance transformation ability. The triple stub circuit topology, which is nothing but an extension of the conventional double stub loaded-line phase shifter, results in one more degree of freedom to its solution when it is solved for its insertion phase. This additional degree of freedom not only brings the impedan...
Performance Enhancement of the Single-Phase Series Active Filter by Employing the Load Voltage Waveform Reconstruction and Line Current Sampling Delay Reduction Methods
Senturk, Osman S.; Hava, Ahmet Masum (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2011-08-01)
This paper proposes the waveform reconstruction method (WRM), which is utilized in the single-phase series active filter's (SAF's) control algorithm, in order to extract the load harmonic voltage component of voltage harmonic type single-phase diode rectifier loads. Employing WRM and the line current sampling delay reduction method, a single-phase SAF compensated system provides higher harmonic isolation performance and higher stability margins compared to the system using conventional synchronous-reference...
Active clamped ZVS forward converter with soft-switched synchronous rectifier for high efficiency, low output voltage applications
Acik, A; Cadirci, I (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2003-03-01)
The analysis, design, and implementation of an active clamped ZVS forward converter equipped with a soft-switched synchronous rectifier (ACFC-SR), proposed for high-efficiency low output voltage DC-DC converter applications, is presented. The converter efficiency is maximised due to soft switching of the main, active clamp, synchronous rectifier, and freewheeling MOSFET switches. The operating principles of the ACFC-SR are analysed in detail, and the converter performance is compared with that of alternativ...
Zigzag metallic conductors as frequency selective surfaces
DELİHACIOĞLU, KEMAL; Sabah, Cumali; KARAASLAN, MUHARREM; ÜNAL, EMİN (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2013-06-18)
Reflection and transmission properties of a new type of frequency selective surface (FSS) made of zigzag metallic elements placed periodically on a dielectric substrate are investigated theoretically for arbitrary polarisation. The electric field integral equation technique with the subdomain overlapping piecewise sinusoidal basis functions are employed to compute the unknown current coefficients induced on the metallic elements. The zigzag FSS arrays act as a low-pass filter in S-(1-5 GHz), X-(8-12 GHz) an...
