A new acousto-optical holographic display device, which is expected to solve the display resolution and refresh problems that are common to available holographic displays, is proposed. The device is based on the reproduction of a hologram as a surface pattern using traveling surface acoustic waves (SAWs). There is an array of electrodes attached to the SAW device. An electrical signal applied to any one of these electrodes generates an acoustical wave propagating on the surface of the crystal. It signals are applied to all of the electrodes simultaneously, propagating waves from the electrodes superpose to form a time-varying SAW pattern on the crystal. This pattern forms the hologram at a specific time. The signals that should be applied to the electrodes are found through a mathematical inversion relation that is derived from the underlying physics. The inversion relation is checked by computer simulations. Simulations also show that the image quality of the proposed 3-D TV display is satisfactory.

Efficient computation of 2D point-spread functions for diffractive lenses
Ayazgok, Suleyman; Öktem, Sevinç Figen (The Optical Society, 2020-01-10)
Diffractive lenses, such as Fresnel zone plates, photon sieves, and their modified versions, have been of significant recent interest in high-resolution imaging applications. As the advent of diffractive lens systems with different configurations expands, the fast and accurate simulation of these systems becomes crucial for both the design and image reconstruction tasks. Here we present a fast and accurate method for computing the 2D point-spread function (PSF) of an arbitrary diffractive lens. The method i...
Advanced Design of Schottky Photodiodes in Bulk CMOS for High Speed Optical Receivers
Orsel, Ogulcan Emre; Erdil, Mertcan; Kocaman, Serdar (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2020-02-01)
This paper provides theoretical insight on how circular Schottky photodiodes in bulk CMOS can be optimized for certain integrated receiver applications. An optimal photodiode size is analytically demonstrated and the effects of a metal plate reflector are simulated using a transfer-matrix method, both for frontside and backside illumination. Finally, a distributed circuit model is presented, which deviates from the classical lumped model for large photodiodes or sheet resistances. The presented methodologie...
QR-RLS algorithm for error diffusion of color images
Unal, GB; Yardimci, Y; Arikan, O; Cetin, AE (SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng, 2000-11-01)
Printing color images on color printers and displaying them on computer monitors requires a significant reduction of physically distinct colors, which causes degradation in image quality. An efficient method to improve the display quality of a quantized image is error diffusion, which works by distributing the previous quantization errors to neighboring pixels, exploiting the eye's averaging of colors in the neighborhood of the point of interest. This creates the illusion of more colors. A new error diffusi...

We propose a microwave imaging structure with GSM, ISM, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX operating frequencies at 1.80, 2.45, and 5.80 GHz, respectively. The suggested structure is based on a microwave antenna-inspired absorber with cavities in resonator layers. Our study, which is validated using simulation and experimental techniques, deals with the absorption of the incident electromagnetic waves at 1.80, 2.45, and 5.80 GHz for creating the image when radio frequency microwave is employed. The above-mentioned three oper...
On-Chip Switch and Add/Drop Multiplexer Design With Left-Handed Behavior in Photonic Crystals
Gövdeli, Alperen; Kocaman, Serdar (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2020-03-01)
An integrated optical switch consisting of a Mach-Zehnder Interferometer with photonic crystals-based phase shifters is designed for telecom wavelength range. The phase modulation along the two arms of the interferometer comes from the photonic band-to-band transition on the photonic crystals that leads to a large effective index difference and results in a switching/modulation-with a low-voltage, small optical interaction length, and a low insertion loss. Moreover, shifting along the same photonic band is ...
