In this research, the results of a study on the combustion characteristics of Soma lignite before and after cleaning are presented. Non-isothermal thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) experiments were carried out for four different size fractions. Experiments were performed from ambient to 900 degrees C in air atmosphere at 10 degrees C/min heating rate. TG/DTG curves revealed three reaction regions. The first region is due to the evaporation of moisture in the coal. The second region can be called the primary reaction region, whereas third region is related to the decomposition of mineral matter in the lignite. Kinetic analysis has revealed that increase in reactivity and long-lasting combustion is the distinctive effect of cleaning on combustion characteristics of Soma lignite.

Effect of particle size and heating rate on the combustion of Silopi asphaltite
Altun, Naci Emre; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2002-05-01)
In this study, the effects of particle size and heating rate on the combustion properties of Silopi asphaltite were investigated. Nonisothermal thermogravimetry experiments were carried out at three different size fractions and five different heating rates. The TG/DTG experiments were carried out from ambient to 900 degreesC in air. The data obtained were analyzed for the determination of the combustion characteristics of the sample. Also an Arrhenius type kinetic model complemented with the weighed mean ac...

Effect of bentonite composition on the HP, HT rheological properties of water-based drilling fluids
Kuru, E; Demirci, S; Ozturk, MY (1998-12-01)
In this study, effects of six bentonites on the viscosity and filtration loss characteristics of water-based drilling fluids have been investigated. Rheological properties of the drilling fluids prepared by API standards were determined by using high temperature (0-100 degrees C) rotational viscometer. The filtration losses of these drilling fluids were measured using high temperature (0-232 degrees C) and high pressure (0-2000 psi) filtration loss measurement equipment.
Effect of heat treatment on microstructural and mechanical properties of molybdenum based PM ferrous alloys
Davoudnezhad, Ramona; Ögel, Bilgehan; Durlu, Nuri; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2016)
In this study, the effect of different heat treatment processes on microstructural and mechanical properties of Distaloy-DH and Astaloy Mo (Fe-2Cu-1.5Mo) powders are investigated. Powder samples are sintered at 1120°C for 45 minutes in a sintering furnace under reducing atmosphere of: 10% H2 + 90% N2. After sintering, secondary heat treatments are performed on samples. Microstructural characterization of samples is done with optical and electron microscopy. Selective etching is utilized for determining the ...
Effect of particle size on the thermal and combustion properties of coal
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Hiçyilmaz, C.; Karacan, Ö. (1997-10-22)
In this research effect of particle size on the combustion properties of Cayirhan coal sample was studied. Non-isothermal thermogravimetry and derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) experiment were carried out for twelve different size fractions of the Cayirhan coal sample. Thermogravimetry experiments were performed from ambient to 900 degrees C in air atmosphere. Differential thermogravimetric data were analysed using an Arrhenius type reaction model assuming a first-order reaction. Kinetic parameters of th...
