Decomposition of C-60 molecules on Si(100)(2 x 1) surface

2000-07-01
We have investigated the decomposition of C-60 molecules with low and high coverages on Si(100)(2 x 1) surface at elevated temperatures. We also investigated the decomposition of an isolated C-60 molecule. We employed molecular-dynamics simulation using a model potential. It has been found that C-60 decomposes on Si(100) surface after 1000 K in the case of low coverage (0.11), however in high coverage case (0.67), C-60 molecules decompose after 900 It. On the other hand, isolated C-60 molecule decomposes after 7500 K, interestingly it shows a phase change from 3D to 2D at higher temperatures.

Decomposition of CH4 on S-A type stepped Si(100) surface
Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (2002-06-30)
Density functional theory method is used to explore the mechanism of dissociative adsorption of methane (CH4) on SA type stepped Si(100) surface. Two reaction paths are described that produce CH3 and hydrogen atom fragments adsorbed on the dimer bonds present on each terraces. It has been found that, in the initial stage of the carbonization of stepped Si(100) surface, the CH3 and H fragments bound to the Si dimer atoms by following the first reaction path.
Decomposition of SiH4 on the S-A type stepped Si(100) surface
Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (2002-06-01)
The density functional theory method is used to explore the mechanism of dissociative adsorption of silane (SiH4) on the S-A type stepped Si(100) surface. Two reaction paths are described that produce silyl (Sills) and hydrogen atom fragments adsorbed on the dimer bonds present on each terrace. It has been found that the initial stage of the dissociation of SiH4 on the SA type stepped Si(100) surface shows similarity to the dissociation of SiH4 on the flat Si(100) surface; SiH3 and hydrogen fragments bond t...
Decomposition of Ge2H6 on the Si(100)(2x1) surface
Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (2003-08-01)
The decomposition of Ge2H6 on Si(100)(2 x 1) was investigated on different adsorption models of fragments using the density functional theory method. The most probable adsorption models of fragments for low and high surface coverage of Ge2H6 have been obtained by geometry optimization and single value relative energy calculations. It has been found that, Ge2H4 makes a bridge between the adjacent surface dimers, Ge2H5-H is bound to the same dimer bond with an unbroken Ge-Ge bond in Ge2H6, and two GeH3 stick ...
Analysis of the Specific Heat in the Supercooled Solid Phase of Liquid Crystals
Kilit, Emel; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Informa UK Limited, 2011-01-01)
The specific heat Cp is analyzed using the experimental data at various temperatures in the solid phase of cholesteryl myristate according to a power-law formula for the rapidly and slowly cooled solid in the stability limit. We also analyze the temperature dependence of the Cp using the experimental data for the supercooled solid phase of p-azoxyanisole in the stability limit and the stability temperatures are determined for both cholesteryl myristate and p-azoxyanisole.
Stability of carbon nanotori
Yazgan, E; Tasci, E; Malcıoğlu, Osman Barış; Erkoç, Şakir (2003-09-12)
The structural stability of carbon nanotori have been investigated by performing molecular--dynamics simulations. The systems considered are C-170, C-360, C-520, and C-750 tori, which have been constructed using an algorithm developed in our laboratory based on Fonseca's idea. Calculations have been realized by using an empirical many-body potential energy function for carbon.
