The effect of axial stresses on rock is known to affect porosity, permeability, and rock compressibility and will be important in some reservoir rock types that are buried deep and at high temperatures. The aim of this project is to determine reservoir rock properties under in situ stress conditions and to observe the effects of axial stresses on reservoir rocks. For this purpose, a uniaxial stress device, which is capable of applying axial stress to the core samples, was used. The core samples chosen were sandstone, limestone, and barea. The experiments were done by measuring porosity in a helium porosimeter measuring liquid permeability, and measuring maximum load on the core samples. The loading rate was kept constant with increasing stresses up to the breaking point of the specimen. The results obtained are important for reservoir characterizations, reservoir managements, enhanced oil recovery processes, and production applications such as well fracturing.

Effect of ground perlite incorporation on the performance of blended cements
Erdem, T. K.; Akgül, Çağla; Tokyay, Mustafa; Erdoğan, Turhan Y. (2007-06-13)
Perlite is a volcanic rock that contains relatively high amounts of SiO2 and Al2O3. Due to its proper chemical composition and glassy structure, it can be used as a pozzolanic addition in blended cements. In this study, ground perlite was used as a cement replacement material in blended cements. Several mortar mixes were prepared to investigate the performance of those cements. The results showed that perlite incorporation caused early age strength losses when compared to the control mortars containing only...
Effect of Au on the crystallization of germanium thin films by electron-beam evaporation
EYGİ, ZEYNEP DENİZ; KULAKCI, MUSTAFA; Turan, Raşit (2014-11-01)
Metal induced crystallization is a widely used method to form crystalline/polycrystalline structures at low temperatures. In this work, Au was applied to enhance the crystallization of amorphous Ge films. Ge films with thicknesses of similar to 1.5 mu m were fabricated by electron beam evaporation on c-Si substrate with and without very thin Au layer. Crystallization properties of Ge films were analyzed for different growth and post annealing temperatures varied between 270 degrees C and 730 degrees C. The ...

Tsunamis in shallow water zones lead to sea water level rise and fall, strong currents, forces (drag, impact, uplift, etc.), morphological changes (erosion, deposition), dynamic water pressure, as well as resonant oscillations. As a result, ground materials under the tsunami motion move and scour/erosion/deposition patterns can be observed in the region. Ports and harbours as enclosed basins are the main examples of coastal structures that usually encounter natural hazards with small or huge damaging scales...
Effect of disturbed zone depth on slope stability analysis: a case study from Western Black Sea Region (Turkey)
Ersöz, Timur; Topal, Tamer (2019-10-07)
Rocks in road cuts are affected by weathering, excavation and tectonic activities. The weak rocks especially disturbed by tectonic activities lose their strength over the years due to excavation and weathering. One of the most important parts to consider here is the damage caused by the type of excavation to the rock mass. In addition, weathering reduces the rock strength towards inside of the slope through discontinuities. In this study, the effects of weathering and excavation on rock strength parameters ...
