Speculations on the city in architectural drawing: dogma as a contemporary critique
Karaköy, Nilay; Kömez Dağlıoğlu, Esin; Department of Architecture (2022-8-29)
Drawings have become a potential design tool in architecture, not limited to the representation of the object. Since they are more than representations of their objects, they become a conceptual model of reality rather than a reproduction. For this reason, the drawings are not limited to architectural objects, they are also related to the context in which the design is built, namely the city. Constructed with a particularly dense pattern of roads and buildings, the modern city has been an important part of ...
Place, Craft And The Ambiguity Of High-Tech
Bozdoğan, Sibel (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 1988)
The Comprehension of Place Awareness in a Historical Context: Metaphors in Architectural Design Education
Özkan Yazgan, Esra; Akalın, Aysu (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2019-9-25)
This study examines cognitive operations in the design studio - the main component of architectural education - and reviews these operations with regard to a design problem. It also develops an argument for performing an analysis of place awareness in historic context while considering the characteristics of the place where the project will be located and accepting that these characteristics affect the architectural design process. Accordingly, the processes experienced by second-year architecture students ...
Teaching Architectural Design Through Creative Practices
Lizondo-Sevilla, Laura; Bosch-Roig, Luis; Ferrer-Ribera, Carmen; Alapont-Ramon, José Luis (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2019-9-25)
This article provides investigation details of teaching architectural design as a fundamental part of the architectural discipline. This line of research delves into learning about the most creative action of the architectural production process, design, taking into account that creativity must be complemented by disciplinary training that combines both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Considering these observations, this text provides information about the experience accomplished by four teacher...
Analysis of Filmmaking Techniques for Architectural Animations
Alvarado, Rodrigo Garcia (2008-1-1)
Digital animation provides a new possibility to exhibit architectural projects, but it must address some features to properly show the building design. This paper exposes a review of diverse moving images presentation of architectural environments in order to identify principles to be considered when display building projects through digital animation. It studied scenes of twenty productions; eight famous movies from different ages, like examples of major filmmaking efforts; six documentaries of historical ...
