The main result of this paper is to show that the three ancient bankruptcy situations from the 2000-year-old Babylonian Talmud can be solved by using the average lexicographic value (Alexia) from cooperative game theory.

Panel approaches to testing the persistence in Turkish real exchange rates
Özdemir, Nilüfer; Erlat, Haluk; Department of Economics (2002)
The PPP hypothesis, which is the basic assumption of many exchange rate determination models, relates the movements in the exchange rates with the price movements in the home and foreign countries. Two methods may be implemented in order to detect the validity of the PPP hypothesis. One of them is to perform unit root tests to the real exchange rates itself. The other method is to implement the unit root tests to the linear combination of the components of the real exchange rates, which means the cointegrat...
An Empirical model of the international cost of equity
Uzunkaya, Mehmet; Küçükkaya, Halit Engin; Department of Business Administration (2015)
The aim of the study is to propose an empirical model of the international cost of equity by investigating and analyzing the long-run relation between disaggregated country risk ratings and country stock market index returns for a large panel of countries. The study tests the hypothesis that, given the available theoretical and empirical evidence, country risk ratings and country stock market index returns should move together in the long-run and there should be a long-run equilibrium between them; thus cou...
Analysis of the monetary stance of Turkey between 2011 and 2018 with a new monetary conditions index: the roles of government bond yields and the exchange rate
Kaptan, Savaş; Gaygısız Lajunen, Esma; Department of Economics (2019)
Measuring the monetary policy stance of central banks is a much-debated issue in the literature. The changing economic dynamics over the time and different structures of economies have made impossible to use only short term interest rates, monetary aggregates or money market rates for analyzing the monetary stance. Accordingly, comprehensive monetary conditions indexes have been discovered and some central banks have started to use them as an operational target. In line with these developments, the main aim...
Analysis of inflation dynamics in Turkey: a New Keynesian Phillips Curve approach
Eruygur, Ayşegül; Erlat, Haluk; Department of Economics (2011)
The main aim of this thesis is to explain the inflation dynamics in Turkey within a theoretically consistent empirical framework. The New Keynesian Phillips Curve (NKPC) is chosen as the basis model for our analysis because, by describing the inflation process within an intertemporal optimizing dynamic general equilibrium model, it provides a rigorous analytical groundwork for credible welfare and policy analysis. We have contributed to the literature by developing a NKPC formulation that is novel in the li...
Estimation and hypothesis testing in stochastic regression
Sazak, Hakan Savaş; Tiku, Moti Lal; İslam, Qamarul; Department of Statistics (2003)
Regression analysis is very popular among researchers in various fields but almost all the researchers use the classical methods which assume that X is nonstochastic and the error is normally distributed. However, in real life problems, X is generally stochastic and error can be nonnormal. Maximum likelihood (ML) estimation technique which is known to have optimal features, is very problematic in situations when the distribution of X (marginal part) or error (conditional part) is nonnormal. Modified maximum...
