Effectiveness factor of a non-isothermal porous catalyst pellet with a bimodal pore size distribution is a strong function of the dimensionless parameter alpha, which is proportional to the ratio of diffusion resistances in the macro and micropores. For exothermic reactions, the maximum observed in the effectiveness factor versus particle-Thiele modulus curves shifts to lower particle-Thiele modulus values and also becomes more significant with an increase of alpha. In the prediction of observed rates, possible effects of four dimensionless groups, namely particle-Thiele modulus phi(i), alpha, Prater parameter beta and gamma should be considered for porous catalysts having bimodal pore-size distributions.

SPECTROSCOPIC MODIFICATIONS OF PIPPARD RELATIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION TO NH4CL
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (1994-07-01)
The Pippard relations have been reformulated in terms of the spectroscopic parameters and applied to the NH4Cl system in the vicinity of its lambda-transition. We have effectively tested some of these relations in an earlier study where we have used, for the frequency shift, data for the nu5 lattice mode of NH4Cl. Here, using our observed frequency shifts for the internal mode, nu2 of NH4+, we have obtained a good fit to the Pippard relations for temperatures below T(lambda) for the NH4Cl system. We have th...
Temperature dependence of the damping constant and the order parameter close to the lambda phase transitions in ammonium halides
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2006-10-01)
This study gives our calculation for the damping constant, using the expressions derived for an Ising pseudospin-phonon coupled system in the ammonium halides (NH4Cl and NH4Br). For this calculation of the damping constant, we use the temperature dependence of the order parameter calculated from the molecular field theory. We predict here the damping constants for the v(5) (174 cm(-1)) and v(5) (177 cm(-1)) Raman modes of NH4Cl and NH4Br, respectively, below T-lambda and compare them with our observed bandw...
Ionic conductivity of microporous titanosilicate ETS-10 and ion-exchanged Mn+-ETS-10 (where, Mn+ = Li+, Na+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Ca2+) thin films prepared by secondary growth method
Galioglu, Sezin; Çam, İbrahim; Akata Kurç, Burcu (2017-09-15)
Impedance spectroscopy was used to investigate the long-range ionic conductivity of the microporous, titanosilicate (Na,K)-ETS-10 and ion-exchanged Mn+-ETS-10 (where, Mn+ = Li+, Na+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Ca2+) thin films prepared by secondary growth method. To figure out the effect of grain boundary on ionic conduction, as-synthesized (Na,K)-ETS-10 films possessing different thicknesses of columnar grain structure (i.e., films prepared via 4h-, 6h-, 8h-, and 10h-growth) were tested. The conductivities of the films w...
Thermal characterization of composites of polyamide-6 and polypropylene involving boron compounds via direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry
İşbaşar Afacan, Güllü Ceyda; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2013)
In this work, the effects of addition of boron compounds, boron phosphate (BPO4), zinc borate (ZnB), borosilicate (BSi) and lanthanum borate (LaB), on thermal degradation characteristics of composites of polyamide 6 (PA6) and polypropylene (PP) are analyzed via Direct Pyrolysis Mass Spectrometry (DP-MS) technique. The composites of PA6 involve nitrogen containing flame retardants, melamine (Me) or melamine cyanurate (MC); or phosphorus containing flame retardant, aluminum diethylphosphinate (AlPi), with or ...
Temperature dependence of the Raman frequencies and bandwidths close to phase transitions in ammonium halides
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2001-09-01)
In this study, we give the temperature dependence of our observed frequencies and bandwidths for the Raman optical modes in the ammonium halides close to the phase transitions of the first order (NH4 Br), tricritical (NH4Cl) and second order (NH4Cl). Using the predictions of an [sing pseudospin-phonon coupled model, which considers interactions between two spin and two phonons, our observed Raman data have been interpreted qualitatively. Our results show that an Ising model considered here can explain the o...
