Overlapping Lattice Modeling for concrete fracture simulations using sequentially linear analysis
Aydın, Beyazıt Bestami; Tuncay, Kağan; Binici, Barış (Wiley, 2018-04-01)
Modeling concrete fracture is important in order to uncover accurately the sources of distress which lead to the damage or failure of structures. Many different numerical approaches have been used in the past employing either a smeared or a discrete cracking approach. Those models have difficulty in capturing the local nature of cracking, as well as the direction of crack propagation. Lattice modeling and peridynamics (PD) are some of the more recent nonlocal fracture simulation tools which possess advantag...
Overlapping lattice modeling for concrete fracture simulations using sequentially linear analysis
Aydın, Beyazıt Bestami; Binici, Barış; Tuncay, Kağan; Department of Civil Engineering (2017)
Estimation of the crack location and width in concrete structures is important due to the sustained damage in structures as a result of extreme loads and aging. The location and width of cracks are the most influential parameters for making decisions on the structure service life. Despite significant developments, the computational modelling of concrete fracture initiation and propagation are still challenging tasks. Many different numerical approaches, most of them based on finite element analysis, have be...

DELAYED DETACHED-EDDY SIMULATION BASED PREDICTIONS OF BOUNDARY LAYER TRANSITION AND CAVITY FLOW NOISE
Yalçın, Özgür; Özyörük, Yusuf; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2021-11-1)
This dissertation investigates the boundary layer transition as well as the cavity flow noise prediction capabilities of a high-order in-house solver using various Delayed Detached-Eddy Simulation (DDES) frameworks. Before conducting the simulations, multiblock topology with a high-order overset grid technique is implemented into the solver, which makes mesh generation for complex geometries, such as the tunnel grids around blade sections, and cavity grids composed of two separate domains of the studied cas...
Hidden sector through dark higgs: a nonminimal extension
Çıngıloğlu, Kıvanç Yiğit; Turan, İsmail; Department of Physics (2018)
In this thesis, a non-minimal extension of the SM with an additional non-abelian SU(2) symmetry is studied. Hidden sector opens innumerable portals for apprehension of theories beyond the SM, hence there is a wide set of gauge extensions with their own symmetries, providing viable DM candidates. Higgs mechanism and Higgs particle play a crucial role to understand how DM weakly interacts with the SM particles. There may exist unrevealed intensity frontiers in Higgs’ decay modes, and the DM can show up throug...
