Although design methods of wideband impedance transformers are known, in some cases there can be limitations on implementation. A practical limitation is the availability of the required characteristic impedance levels, particularly in antenna array feed structures.

Design and implementation of variable frequency sine wave output buck-boost inverter
Şener, Yunus; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
Conventional inverters have pulse-width-modulated output with a fundamental component at the desired frequency and magnitude. These converters are usually buck type and therefore the DC link voltage limits the maximum 3-phase output voltage magnitude. As a consequence, in motor drive applications field weakening is essential after a certain frequency of operation, as it becomes impossible to preserve the rated flux level. In renewable energy applications similar problems arise. When the DC link voltage fall...
Design and implementation of a voltage source converter based statcom for reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering
Çetin, Alper; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In this thesis, design and implementation of a distribution-type, voltage source converter (VSC) based static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) having the simplest converter and coupling transformer topologies have been carried out. The VSC STATCOM is composed of a +/- 750 kVAr full-bridge VSC employing selective harmonic elimination technique, a low-pass input filter, and a /Y connected coupling transformer for connection to medium voltage bus. The power stage of VSC based STATCOM is composed of water-co...
Investigation of multilevel inverters for d-statcom applications
Deniz, Mustafa; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
The most important advantages of Multilevel Inverters are the absence of a coupling transformer for medium voltage applications and low harmonic current content. In this way, relocatable and economical STATCOM systems can be realized. Complex control algorithms and the isolation problems of measurement devices and power supplies are the main challenging parts of this type of application. In this study, the design, realization, and the performance of a Voltage Source Type Cascaded Multilevel Converter Based ...
Dimension reduced robust beamforming for towed arrays
Topçu, Emre; Candan, Çağatay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
Adaptive beamforming methods are used to obtain higher signal to interference plus noise ratio at the array output. However, these methods are very sensitive to steering vector and covariance matrix estimation errors. To overcome this issue, robust methods are usually employed. On the other hand, implementation of these robust methods can be computationally expensive for arrays with large number of sensors. Reduced dimension techniques aim to lower the computational load of adaptive beamforming algorithms w...
Design and realization of broadband instantaneous frequency discriminator
Pamuk, Gökhan; Yıldırım, Nevzat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
n this thesis, RF sections of a multi tier instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) receiver which can operate in 2 – 18 GHz frequency band is designed, simulated and partially realized. The designed structure uses one coarse tier, three medium tiers and one fine tier for frequency discrimination. A novel reflective phase shifting technique is developed which enables the design of very wideband phase shifters using stepped cascaded transmission lines. Compared to the classical phase shifters using coupled ...
