Modern satellite communication systems require high data rate, high-efficiency and simple transmitters, without sacrificing efficiency and linearity depending on the modulation scheme. Main purpose of this study is to design a transmitter with data rates up to 100 Mb/s, BPSK/QPSK/OQPSK modulation and 7W output power at 8.2 GHz for low earth orbit (LEO) satellites in order to satisfy the high data rate demand. Since the transmitter should be a low power, simple and low weight one, the power amplifier will be a solid state device. The power consumption of the transmitter is mainly determined by power amplifiers, which should be improved according to these constraints. In the oncoming stages of this study, the linearity and efficiency trade off for BPSK, QPSK and OQPSK modulated signals in this line-up will be observed.

An Automatically Mode-Matched MEMS Gyroscope With Wide and Tunable Bandwidth
Sonmezoglu, Soner; Alper, Said Emre; Akın, Tayfun (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2014-04-01)
This paper presents the architecture and experimental verification of the automatic mode-matching system that uses the phase relationship between the residual quadrature and drive signals in a gyroscope to achieve and maintain matched resonance mode frequencies. The system also allows adjusting the system bandwidth with the aid of the proportional-integral controller parameters of the sense-mode force-feedback controller, independently from the mechanical sensor bandwidth. This paper experimentally examines...
Broadband spatial power combining in coaxial medium
Tanç, Zafer; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
Microwave amplifiers having high output power are the essential components in many systems, such as radar and satellite communication. Although the structures generated by tube technologies fulfill the necessity of the required output power, the use of these amplifiers includes some critical drawbacks, one of which is the limited life of operation. Alternatively, solid-state amplifiers produced by transistor technology are preferred since they are high reliable devices. In order to provide the necessary out...
A current source converter based statcom for reactive power compensation at low voltage
Biçer, Nazan; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
This research work is devoted to the analysis, design and development of the Current-Source Converter (CSC) based distribution-type Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) for low-voltage applications in reactive-power control in order to achieve i) faster transient response in reactive-power control, ii) lower current harmonic distortion, iii) lower power losses and iv) minimum storage elements in comparison with conventional solutions. The developed CSC-D-STATCOM includes a low-pass input filter and a ...
Improving the efficiency of microwave power amplifiers without linearity degradation using load and bias tuning in a new configuration
Ronaghzadeh, Amin; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
Advanced digital modulation schemes used in the wireless applications, result in the modulated RF signals with high peak to average power ratio which requires linear amplification. On the other hand, the demand for a longer talk time with less battery volume and weight, especially in hand-held radio units, necessitate more power efficient methods to be utilized in power amplifier design. But improved linearity and efficiency have always been contradicting requirements demanding innovative power amplifier and...
An improved data acquisition system for contactless conductivity imaging
Çolak, İlyas Evrim; Gençer, Nevzat Güneri; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
The previous data acquisiton system developed for the electrical impedance imaging via contactless measurements is improved to obtain measurements with a faster scanning speed of 0.15 sec/mm2. This system uses magnetic excitation to induce currents inside the body and measures the magnetic fields of the induced currents with an axial gradiometer. Gradiometer consists of two differentially connected 10000-turn coils with diameter of 30 mm and a transmitter coil of 100-turn coil of diameter 30 mm placed and m...
