Positioning of Cubic Shaped Particles with Different Edge Structures in Nematic Medium
KARAUSTA, ASLI; Büküşoğlu, Emre (2021-01-01)
Liquid crystals (LC) are phases of matter that possess long range orientational order while maintaining fluidic properties. LCs have been shown to provide a medium that result in self-assembly of the colloidal particles through elastic interactions. One parameter that affects the positioning of the particles in LC medium is the edge sharpness of the particles. Simulation studies in the literature suggests that the edge sharpness of the particles directly affect the LC director profile at the vicinity of the...
Instability of CL-20 exposed to the effects of alpha-particle
Türker, Burhan Lemi (2015-07-01)
Within the constraints of density functional theory, (B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) and B3LYP/6-31++G(d,p)), it is shown that 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtizane (CL-20) is unstable in the presence of an alpha-particle which transfers its charge causing the cage structure of CL-20 to be destroyed. Structural factors responsible for such a destruction are investigated. It has been found that removal of a single NO2 group from the 5- or 6-membered ring of CL-20 causes cage destruction in the dication...

Adherence of Candida albicans to glow-discharge modified acrylic denture base polymers
Yildirim, MS; Hasanreisoglu, U; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Sultan, N (2005-07-01)
An important aetiologic factor in the pathogenesis of denture-induced stomatitis, is the presence of numerous yeasts, usually Candida albicans, on the fitting surfaces of dentures. In the present study, effect of glow-discharge plasma, a technique applied to increase surface wettability of acrylic resins, on candidial adherence was evaluated. The durability of glow-discharge modification with saliva coating was also evaluated. Samples including control and experimental groups were prepared by using heat com...
