Local structure in marginal glass forming Al-Sm alloy
Kalay, Yunus Eren; Kramer, M. J.; Anderson, I. E. (Elsevier BV, 2010-08-01)
The local structure in rapidly quenched Al(100-x)Smx (x = 8, 10, 11, and 12) and liquid Al89Sm11 has been investigated using a combination of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction (HEXRD). TEM analysis showed a featureless microstructure with diffuse scattering in rapidly quenched Al(100-x)Smx (x = 8, 10, 11, and 12) within the glass formation composition range under the bright field (BF) conditions. Total structure factor analysis of the liquid and as-quenched...
Local volatility model applied to BIST30 european warrants: pricing and hedging
Kirazoğlu, Zekiye Sıla; Sezer, Ali Devin; Department of Financial Mathematics (2016)
One of the basic observations on pricing options is that the assumption of constant volatility does not agree with data and market price data gives a volatility smile that depends on maturities and strike prices. The first model that developed to be compatible with this observation is the local volatility model. The purpose of this work is to study the performance of the local volatility model on BIST30 warrants and compare it to the standard Black Scholes model. To estimate the local volatility model from d...
Local Structure and Chemistry in Marginal Forming Alloys
Ulucan, Tolga Han; Kalay, Eren; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2020-9)
In this thesis structural and corresponding mechanical properties of marginal metallic glass-forming alloys were studied. Al90Tb10 system exhibits unique devitrification features due to their exceptional primary crystallization products of Al nanocrystals with populations reaching up to 1024 m−3 . A full agreement on how this abnormal nucleation event occurs is still lacking. Our previous studies on Al-RE (RE: rareearth element) have shown that two different amorphous precursors prepared using melt-sp...
Local left invertibility for operator tuples and noncommutative localizations
Dosiev, Anar (Cambridge University Press (CUP), 2009-01-01)
In the paper we propose an operator approach to the noncommutative Taylor localization problem based on the local left invertibility for operator tuples acting on a Frechet space. We prove that the canonical homomorphism U(g) -> O(g) of the universal enveloping algebra U(g) of a nilpotent Lie algebra g into its Arens-Michael envelope O(g) is the Taylor localization whenever g has normal growth.
Local Roots A Tree Based Subgoal Discovery Method to Accelerate Reinforcement Learning
Demir, Alper; Polat, Faruk; Cilden, Erkin (2016-12-04)
Subgoal discovery in reinforcement learning is an effective way of partitioning a problem domain with large state space. Recent research mainly focuses on automatic identification of such subgoals during learning, making use of state transition information gathered during exploration. Mostly based on the options framework, an identified subgoal leads the learning agent to an intermediate region which is known to be useful on the way to goal. In this paper, we propose a novel automatic subgoal discovery meth...
